Little Red Lion Hood

Programme Cover

On Tuesday December 18, 2007 and not quite with a cast of thousands, the new theatre group ‘Sweet Sorrow’ regaled the specially selected audience to the world premiere of Little Red Lion Hood [actually there were six gentle actors] with the vaguely true story of the finding of treasure in the vicarage and subsequent building of the church tower etc. Received with acclaim by folk who weren’t there, it was only in the final scene that the goodies despatched the baddies and thus formulated the essential happy ending.
Mr Kelly, in a quiet part as a nice man, Simple Spyman, made it obvious that he is a very fine actor indeed. Ron Nicholls and Tony Coote as baddies Desperate Dan and Brother Grim, clearly typecast, failed to get the better of Little Red Lion Hood [the vicar – “We didn’t know what sin was until he came”] and his rhyming sleepy friend. Bob Wade, as Genius of the Teapot, wowed the audience with his outlandish predictions and author Stan, as the curtains, was mostly able to pull himself together in time to act also as prompt and scene shifter.
There will be many people, I fancy, who would welcome the opportunity to see this pantomime a second time, especially if they were unfortunate enough to miss it on the first performance.

Anticipation

A selection of the specially selected audience. Judging by the happy smiles this must have been taken before the performance started.

Asleep?

Simple Spyman feigns sleep to listen to the dastardly plans of Desperate Dan and Brother Grim - or is he merely dreaming a new nursery rhyme?

Back from Hartlepool

On his return from Hartlepool, Little Red Lion Hood encourages the audience to awaken Simple Spyman - so that he can be told who hung the monkey?

Enter the Genius of the Teapot

Having been forced to leave his long-time home in the broken village lamp, to live in a teapot, the Genius changes his name to 'Tet Lea' and confronts Brother Grim.
