The Friends of Darlington Memorial Hospital hold their major fund-raising event on the first Saturday in July.
The Summer Fete is held on the grassland at the front of the hospital.
As ever, there was a contingent from Darlington Hospital Radio in attendance. We were on-hand with the public address system, a little music, entertainment and whatever mischief we are allowed to get up to :-)
Despite tropical monsoon conditions earlier in the week, the heavens failed to open and the fete was a huge success.
The Radio Skerne volunteers were situated under the main tent with the sound sytem. We provided the music for the dancers from the Tiffany School of Dance who always make an appearance to entertain the visitors to the fete.
As well as the entertainment, there were various stalls, raffles and tombolas.
The money raised is expected to equal or exceed the figure amassed from the Summer Fete last year. However, any money raised at the event is matched pound-for-pound by Barclays Bank.
The Friends and Radio Skerne would like to thank all the people who volunteered their spare time to help out, including:
John Forbes - for providing the necessary PA system, supplying the music and for conducting the afternoon.
Frank Benson - Radio Skerne's liaison Officer with the Friends.
Other exhibitors at the event included:
The Territorial Army
The Tiffany School of Dance
Sherwoods of Darlington
The staff and volunteers at Darlington Memorial Hospital.
Finally, we would like to thank all the people of Darlington for being so generous and making the event a success. The members of Radio Skerne hope to see you again there at the next Fete!
