Club Activities

The membership of Redcar Amateur Photographic Society fluctuates from season to season and is always low at the start of the season, picking up in November. Membership of all camera clubs is falling although at the present time the head count in our club is 56. Some years ago we regularly had over 100 members but people move on. We are always pleased to hear from anyone who is interested in photography, irrespective of age or experience, and suggest that you come along for a visit or two to suss us out and see if we are your cup of tea. (Incidentally we have a break in mid session when you are welcome to a free tea or coffee and biscuit!)

We offer a very varied programme, with weekly club meetings between September and May featuring slide shows, competitions, practical nights and club shop for cheap films, etc..

Talking of competitions - we strongly believe that members improve their photographic skills through competition and we have several of open and set subjects.

The Club has a strong social foundation which allows us to run an annual foreign trip which provides members with an opportunity to work on new and unusual subject matter and gives non-members (friends)an excellent and companionable way of discovering new places – and shops!
In previous years, our destinations have included Ghent, Ostend, Paris, Amsterdam, Normandy and the Moselle region of Germany.

We also have a Christmas trip to Leeds and Bradford for shopping or visiting the National Photographic Museum which we have supported since its inception.

And, of course, our two main social events: the Christmas Party and the Presentation Evening in May. You've got nothing to loose and everything to gain by coming along. Be seeing you!

TW3

Last night (7 Nov)we were entertained and educated by Brian Lake of Glaisdale with a slide show and talk on the Ice Age in our locality - and it might return!!

I took a shot of the club as Denis Bell our Chairman finished introducing Brian. He looks a bit startled at a camera being produced at a camera club!

21st November

This week we hosted the Slide Battle with Grangetown Camera Club with each club entering 20 slides. The judge showed the first ten each per club with even steven scoring of 242 each.

This was followed by our customary "tea break" but because we were "guesting" our lady members put on quite a spread which included pies, sausage rolls, open sandwiches, quiches, cheese and crackers, nibbles, cakes and gateaux. All accompanied with choice of wines(!), orange juice, tea or coffee!

The second half saw us snatch a win with our last slide "Washday Blues" by Carol Gowland getting top marks of 30!
