More Sprints
 | Going or coming?
An unusual competitor in the Sprint Races at Hartlepool in 1949. |
|
Motorcycle Sand Races
 | Seaton Sand Races 1936
Redcar, Marske and Saltburn didn't have a monopoly on sand racing and in this Seaton race numbers 4, 13 and 15 were all Norton's while the bike with no number was an AJS. |
|
Prophetic
 | Silverstone 1949
Jack went far afield to follow his favourite sport as this snap taken at Silverstone shows. The man wearing glasses is identified as B.Gerard talking to driver E.R.A.Horsfield with his head bowed just prior to the start of the race in which he was killed. |
|
Sand Racing
 | Saltburn 1936
Falls weren't too serious on the sands. |
|
Refreshments
 | Saltburn Race Meeting 1936
This shot shows how popular the racing was, whether with cars or bikes and it was nice to have a refreshments bar. |
|

Display
 | Anything to do with cars!
Jack grabbed a shot of his son Jim in the forties with his pal Ernie Crust on the right and another friend on his left sporting a Coatham cap (Sir William Turner's). |
|
Tthe Snail Race
 | Intent on a result. About 1943.
Jack took this shot of son Jim and friend concentrating on their racing stable. |
|

 | An Anson on display at Thornaby Aerodrome
Jack loved aircraft and took every opportunity to visit Air Displays, particularly at Thornaby. |
|
Handley Page

Hawker Hart
 | | This plane wooed the crowds in 1938 with it's gleaming cowl |
|
Hawker Hart (2)
 | | But was already outdated before the war started |
|
Whitley Bomber

|
Jack's Camera
 | Jack's Homemade Camera
While Jack Wright mainly used an Exacta he also used this camera which he made himself. He also printed his photographs on a homemade enlarger. |
|

|
Linthorpe Road
 | | Up the Boro |
|
London
 | | A visit to "The Smoke" - with camera! |
|
The Market 1
 | A Market stall
Jack loved photographing crowds and where better than the market? Unfortunately this stall-holder spotted Jack and demanded £5 "copyright money"! Jack tried to leave but the man had a big mouth and finally Jack gave him the money to get away from an embarrassing scene. |
|
The Market (2)
 | Another stall, another day
I don't know if this photo was taken before the last one or whether Jack's resolve had hardened. |
|
The Market (3)
 | Yet another stall
Remarks as the last pic! |
|
Down the Steelworks
 | Tapping molten steel
Jack was a metallurgist and often took his camera with him when going to the various steel plants. I used some of his photos on my Slaggy Island site. |
|
Skinningrove
 | | Taken on a visit to Skinningrove Steelworks |
|
Ringside
 | A night at the wrestling
When Jack had a night out at the wrestling he took his camera with him. The Evening Gazette banners were prominent at the venue which was either Farrer Street or the Town Hall in Middlesbrough in the thirties or forties. |
