Welcome!
Redcar & Cleveland Twinning Association welcomes you to its website. Take a few minutes to browse the pages and learn what the Twinning Association can do for you and what you can do for international friendship.
The Twinning Association was formed in 1990, with a formal link with the town of Troisdorf in Germany. Troisdorf is a town of about 120,000 people, mid-way between Bonn and Cologne in the Rhine valley. The ten small towns and villages that make up Troisdorf are a mixture of rural, riverside, historical, commercial and industrial communities.
Cologne is fifteen minutes away by car or on the local train. The magnificent cathedral dominates the city centre with its vast array of shops, pubs and places of historic interest. Bonn is a 20 minute drive to the ancient market square at the city centre with its baroque Rathaus and nearby Beethoven Birthplace museum.
What can Twinning do for you?
Exchange visits -The main activity is an on-going series of exchanges between individuals, families and groups.
Work Experience - The Twinning Association works closely with its German counterpart and with the Troisdorf Town Hall to provide work experience placements for individuals or small groups of students.

What can you do for Twinning?
Hospitality - New hosts are always welcome. Hosts provide bed, breakfast and evening meals to visitors, usually for four to six days. The Twinning Association tries to pair hosts and guests with similar interests. Members who cannot offer accommo- dation, help as 'day-hosts', escorting visitors during the day.
The language barrier has never proved to be a problem. Usually the German visitors speak sufficient English to get by and there is usually someone nearby to help out. All German children learn English as a second language and most are keen to practice their language skills with their hosts.
Volunteers to help manage the Twinning Association are especially welcome. A Newsletter editor and a website manager are needed at present. Members with a good local knowledge often serve as tour guides, taking coach parties to Whitby, York or across the moors and dales.
FOR MORE INFORMATION - use the e-mail form on the Mail Form on the side-bar menu or below, or write to Redcar & Cleveland Twinning Association, The Mayor's Office, Town Hall, Fabian Road, South Bank, Middlesbrough TS6 9AR.

Visits for study, business & friendship
Exchange visits - Each year, a group of adults and families makes an exchange visit; one year the Britons visit Germany and the next year the German group travels to East Cleveland. Visits are usually organised on an exchange basis. That implies that a group that accepts hospitality when visiting its partner is expected to offer the equivalent hospitality on the return visit.
Business contacts - Through its many contacts with the Troisdorf Town Hall and the local business community, the Twinning Association can introduce prospective business partners.
Special Interest visits -The Twinning Association has arranged special visits for Chess Clubs, Gymnastic teams, Road runners, Photographers, Dance groups, young musicians and historical societies.
