Drama Productions
The Memorial Hall is a regular venue for North Country Theatre, including sell out performances of "The 39 Steps" in 2006 and "The Man who would be King" in 2007. This year's production will be "The Prisoner of Zenda" on Friday 5th December.
British aristocrat Rudolph Rassendyll is distantly related to the royal family of Ruritania and when visiting for the coronation of his cousin the crown prince, he is discovered to be a double for the drunken and dissolute monarch. Rebellion, Romance & Mistaken Identity follow as our dashing hero saves the day with subterfuge and swordplay, and beautiful princess Flavia is forced to choose between her heart and her duty.
"witty energetic - this was a pearl of a production!" Pocklington Post
"From the swishing swordplay to echoing yodelling, the show is full of joyful comedy and charm, with a dash of danger and honour too." York Evening Press
The Library Theatre, Theatre of the Dales and Badapple Theatre Company have also performed there, and the Hall is used for performances during the annual Swaledale Festival.

The Artyfacts
The Friends of Swaledale Museum production of Beauty & the Beast first performed by the local Methodist Guild in 1949, was a runaway success, with three performances sold out and the final Dress Rehearsal opened to the public. The Saturday afternoon matinee was filmed by Dales Diary and was shown on Tyne Tees on December 20.
The 2007 production Aladdin was equally succesful - watch this page for details of the 2008/09 production. | |
