Reference Groups for Physical & Sensory Impairment

Do you, or someone you know, have a physical or sensory impairment? If the answer is YES your opinions are important and your comments and input are needed, so please read on....

A positive development within North Yorkshire is the creation of reference groups of disabled people through the Physical and Sensory Impairment Partnership Board (PSI).

Organisations involved in making sure PSI representation happens include Whitby & Scarborough Disabled Action Groups, The Wilf Ward Family Trust, Selby Action for Voluntary Services and Richmondshire Council for Voluntary Services.

As one of the lead agencies making PSI representation happen in North Yorkshire the RCVS has just set-up a new group covering the Hambleton and Richmondshire districts called 'HaRPSI'.

The key aims of the PSI groups are;
- to provide a communication hub and platform for people with PSI, together with carers and agencies with an interest in this field of work, to come together, express their views and be heard.
- to comment upon and contribute to the work of the North Yorkshire Physical and Sensory Impairment Partnership Board and its member organisations. This includes aiding member organisations in achieving their equality and diversity objectives.

Initial meetings of people interested in HaRPSI have already occurred and there will be further meetings taking place over the next few months as the group develops..., so to make sure that you are kept fully informed why not sign-up to the Hambleton and Richmondshire Physical & Sensory Impairment 'free' communication and email hub or join our mailing list.

Please contact John Atkins by telephoning 01748-822537 or email john.rcvs@virgin.net

'DON'T DELAY - MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD TODAY'

Can't make the meetings....but would like your voice heard..

The HaRPSI reference group would like to hear from anyone who has a physical or sensory impairment.

We can arrange to visit you individually or even attend meetings of a group you may already belong to, in order to;
- explain HaRPSI
- advise how the reference group works
- the importance of your views and opinions, and most importantly
- how your voice can be heard

Just contact John on 01748-822537 or email john.rcvs@virgin.net.

We look forward to hearing from you....

HaRPSI.....be informed

Do you have access to the internet?.... then why not sign-up to the 'free' HaRPSI Yahoo Communication hub and be kept regularly informed about the reference group and its activities.

The communication hub also provides access to lots of relevant information such as useful internet links and general information, including...
- disability issues
- forthcoming meetings
- interesting web links
- reports from government and agencies

Alternatively, if you would like to register with the reference group to be kept informed via hard copy printed information then please get in touch.

To obtain an invite into the HaRPSI communication hub please call John on 01748-822537 or email your details to me at john.rcvs@virgin.net

'Independus' Moving Forward....(24/07/08)

Following on from a substantial grant award of from Government, new trustees at ‘Independus’ are working hard to get the Richmondshire & Hambleton Centre for Independent Living (CIL) fully operational.
This CIL is expected to provide advice, information & advocacy as well as support people with Direct Payments or Individual Budgets and similar services.
Among the issues identified by Independus for early discussion and action are: appropriate housing for disabled people, transport in a rural area, opportunities for employment, campaigning for better health venues, self management of budgets and facilitated access to buildings.

Independus also meets socially every week at 2.00pm on Thursdays, either at The Station or the Ralph Fitz Randall in Richmond, and has a business meeting on the last Thursday of each month at 10.00 in the Oak Tree Cottage located at the Army Welfare Complex in Catterick Garrison.

If you have a disability and would like to find out more or would like to be involved than take a look at www.independus.org or contact John Atkins at Richmondshire Council for Voluntary Service on 01748-822537 or email john.rcvs@virgin.net

Footnote:
Centres for Independent Living (CIL) are an important part of the new joint Government Strategy which aims to transform the lives of disabled people by giving them more choice and control.
The strategy outlines how it is seeking to move resources from professional assessment and care management to user-led support, advocacy and brokerage so that people get the right support to make important decisions for themselves.
