Rhythm Street tops Britpop chart on MP3.com

Rhythm Street are a 5 piece rock/pop band from North East England.

Their melodic approach to songwriting gives a continuity to the broad range of styles employed in the band. With a tight rhythm section and some blinding musicianship, they maintain a hold on the listener - either Live or on CD.

In Feb 2000, Hard Times reached #10 in Britpop, with Dirty Voices getting to the #6 spot for a month and followed by Heights at #16 (September 2000). The collaboration with superb vocalist Tom Fox gave them their first #1 with Mary Lou (Feb 2001).

They appear frequently in the top 30 overall Pop/Rock bands on IUMA and have received over 30,000 downloads so far....
Experience Rhythm Street's Unsung Songs 1991-2001, a collection of greatest hits originally played live by the band - from 1991's Fighting on The Beach to 2001's #1 BritPop hit Mary Lou.

Before Rhythm Street, founder members Paul Cantillon and Shaun Campbell worked as composers for contemporary dance and theatre, writing original scores for productions like Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, The Tempest, Macbeth and Midsummer Night's Dream (Durham Theatre Co) They also worked with The National Youth Dance Theatre, The Royal Scottish Ballet and Phoenix Dance Company. They had their ambient track Age performed before Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in Harare, Zimbabwe (1993).
