Parish of Saint Cuthbert, Benfieldside

St. Cuthbert's is a living community which seeks to act upon the two great commandments of Jesus Christ:

"You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength."

and, "Love your neighbour as yourself."

We give expression to our faith in the worship of God, by our service of others, and through a desire to make welcome real within an inclusive community.

Explore this site to find information about St. Cuthbert's and matters of wider interest. We aim to keep it up-to-date, and add to it on a regular basis.

To use this site, click on the links to the left and at the bottom of this page, and come back again for further up-dates.

Be Welcome at St. Cuthbert's

The Parish of St. Cuthbert, Benfieldside serves the communities of Blackhill, Bridgehill and Shotley Bridge - though you’re welcome wherever you live!

St. Cuthbert's is an Anglican Church (part of the Church of England), but its members come from a range of backgrounds. Everyone is welcome to join in our activities and worship.

These are our main Sunday services:

8.00a.m. Holy Communion
10.00a.m. Parish Eucharist
6.00p.m. Evening Prayer

On this site

There's plenty to explore! The way it's put together doesn't allow the methodical presentation we might like... Sorry!

Contacts (Who's Who?), directions, information on Baptism and Wedding arrangements are hopefully helpful core pages.

Up-dated 29th January 2010

Look out for up-dates on the Calendar page, Parish Magazine pages and the page "This Sunday's Readings." And there's a new Parish Blog which we aim to keep current.

We carry links to make life easier... Look to your left for links within this site.

Sunday School...

... meets on Sundays during school term.

Children aged three years and upwards are very welcome. We start at the same time as the 10a.m. Eucharist, meeting in the Church Hall (directly opposite the church) - and we join the rest of the congregation in church for the final part of the service.

See more on our special Sunday School page.

Read our Parish Magazine online...

You can now access our Parish Magazine online - read it in the same format as the printed edition. Simply click on the link, and read on, using the online tools.

If that's not enough...

...and you want some rather heavier (meatier?) reading, the Vicar has now started up-loading some of his own past writings.

But you first might want to take a deep breath, and have the caffeine to hand...

Lent at St. Cuthbert's

Lent – a season for prayer, study & worship

ASH WEDNESDAY

Wednesday 17th February

Join us for the Eucharist on Ash Wednesday:

7.30p.m. Sung Eucharist
with imposition of ashes

This year we’re planning to celebrate only one Eucharist on Ash Wednesday. Please make the effort to join us so that we can begin this holy season together. If you need transport, please let us know!

And look out for details of our plans for study & worship during Lent.

Please use wisely the opportunities Lent gives us……

¶ Make a commitment to be regular in worship:

• especially by joining in the Eucharist each Sunday.

¶ Make extra time for worship:

• midweek Eucharists on Thursdays at 10.00a.m.
• further opportunities including Stations of the Cross

¶ Take time for reflection at home:

• make some time each day for prayer in quiet.
• use the parish’s daily prayer sheet & prayer cycle.
• resolve to get to grips with the Bible.
