Go West Young Man...

The Highways & Byways Of The USA.

10th August 1996.

After a long-haul journey on Saturday, we arrived from the UK at Los Angeles Airport about 2.30pm UK time and 6.30pm US time. We were tired, sweaty and the noise outside the airport was disorientating.

The car was collected from Hertz Car-Rental and we had a short drive to our hotel The Continental Plaza.
After checking in, we were all very tired and went to bed at 9.30pm. Our four-yeard old son was very good on the journey and had received a duffle bag with games inside courtesy of British Airways.

I am writing this at 5.00am, as my body clock is still on UK time. We have a meeting with our Premier Holidays Agent at 8.00am to receive our itinery, so we will be going for breakfast around 7.00am.
Then we will be continuing onto Anaheim... so it all starts here!

11th August 1996.

We travelled from Los Angeles to Anaheim, to the hotel 'The Jolly Roger'. It is really a type of Motel, but our room has two bedrooms, a dressing room and a bathroom.

Today we went to DisneyLand, it is very much the same as EuroDisney, not as big as the one in Florida, but big enough!
The temperature today is 84 degrees and we have all got abit sunburnt!
Our son must be very tired tonight as he as fallen alseep at 7.45pm.

The Hotel is around 500 yards from the entrance to DisneyLand, so we walked there instead of using the shuttlebus.
Our son spoke to Mickey Mouse, he saw Ezmerelda and the Hunchback and went on a Pinnochio Ride.

On the Pinnochio Ride, I was more frightened than our young son, as I got a startle as one of the figures shouted at me!!
We also had a ride on a Mississippi paddle steamer, which was very peacful.

We 're Getting The Hang Of This!

12th August 1996.

Today we drove about five miles and went to Knotts Berry Farm.
There were plenty of rides and we went on quite a few, there was a log flume, trains, lorries and aeroplanes for our son to ride around on, while we enjoyed the shade of the many trees from the hot sun.

Our son had his photgraph taken with Snoopy and with another two of Charie Brown's friends.
The weather is extremely hot here and you have to go inside, put on the air conditioning to cool down!
Its so hot, that none of us have much of appetite anyway, so its mostly lots of drinks with planty of ice.

We all seem to have enjoyed ourselves and I think it is better than DisneyLand, as there was more a variety and plenty of different types of foods and rides to see.

It is now 7.50pm as I write this and my son and husband are alseep. I must admit, over the last two days, we've done a lot of walking.

Anaheim is a lovely part of Los Angeles, though driving here we did pass some 'seedy-looking' places.
The driving doesn't seem too bad and the traffic flow and speed limits are no so bad.
The speed limit on one road can change every few blocks, so you have to watch out all the time for speed signs. It seems to range from twenty-five mph on side roads to thirty-five/forty mph on the main three-lane roads that go through the city.
But I think it is sixty-five mph on the Freeways.

Tomorrow is the next test... as we go on a longer drive down to San Diego.
