The Blue Whale!

The Blue Whale, as you probably know, is the largest animal ever to have lived but did you know it is also the loudest? It's voice is 144 decimals which is louder then a jet! It's call can travel for hundreds of miles and if heard close up it can damage your ears. The Blue Whale, evn thought the largest of all animals, eats one of the smallest orgasims on Earth, Plankton. This is it's main food source but it also eats krill and small fish. Unfortunately there are less the 15,000 left in the world due to hunting for their oil and meat. Even though of past hunting, the amount of Blue Whales dieing each year is going down and they are starting to recover. The Blue Whale has amazing diving ability, able to dive for up to an hour! When they breath, water shoots up out of their blowhole(s(find out more about this later)) up into the air for more then 15 metres! Their live span is 25-30 years but their lives can be ended at a young age by Orcas, also known as Killer Whales.

The Blue Whale's Body!

For my next trick I will now try to explain what a Blue Whales Body parts are called and where they are so listen up. Unlike the dolphin, the Blue whale has 2 blowholes on a lump on the top of its head. It has 50-70 throat grooves which help the Whale to take in more water when they are feed filtering (this is like us using a sieve to get seeds out of water). It has 2 front flippers and 1 back one that is shaped strangely like a sickle. It is called a dorsal fin like on the dolphin but is a lot smaller. Also, like the dolphin, its tail parts are called flukes. To hear the call of a Blue Whale click on the link below (You have to turn your speakers up until you hear it because it is quite a queit recording)
