What is Shadforth Women’s Institute (SWI)?
Member’s quotes:
“Always an interesting meeting with a varied programme – with friends old and new.”
“First and foremost a lovely group of people! Varied topics and social time with lots of chat and laughter.”
“After 16 years in Pittington and Littletown WI it closed in January 2005. We decided to join Shadforth WI as when we visited it we were made so welcome by everyone – it was a very friendly experience.”
For over 66 years, Shadforth WI has provided a meeting place for women in the rural area of Shadforth, County Durham.
Shadforth WI has charity status and is self-governing within the framework of the WI Constitution and Rules. Shadforth WI is part of Durham County Federation of Women’s Institutes (DCFWI).
It is important to the rural community of Shadforth as it provides a centre of community and a chance to meet others in an age of increasing social isolation and a growth in the phenomena of dormitory villages.
We aim to provide a contact point, enabling people to meet and socialise regularly, to listen to interesting talks, and take part in various activities.
New members are always welcome and the nature of the group is that the WI is there for it's members - your WI is up to you!
