1. Remember When Magazine
 | | We all know and appreciate the nostalgic Remember When magazine published by the Evening Gazette. In fact it probably influenced me with this website, a fact that I acknowledged on my Homepage when I first started up Slaggy Island. Then it was Terry Gilder who ran the show to be followed by Chris Rooney. |

2. John Purvis
 | Young John Purvis with Tony and May Sheridan
It began with a knock on the door...
Young John Purvis came to see me with his grandfather Tony Sheridan. It seems that John is a fan of both Remember When and the Slaggy Island website. He was armed with a stack of Remember When cuttings and was of the opinion that they should be on Slaggy Island.
The quality which comes from scanning cuttings is not very good but better a poor copy than none at all. And, of course, I realise that Remember When holds the copyright to all photos published in their paper.
I tried to contact Remember When for permission to use the material but got no reply, however, I have contacted them in the past and they were very helpful, providing I mentioned them which seems very fair to me. To this end I have created their own page, I acknowledge their copyright and thank them for everything. I also thank young John Purvis for going out of his way to have his Remember When cuttings seen further afield.

3. John and Alan Purvis
 | John pictured with his father Alan
After meeting John it turned out that I knew his family. His father Alan had worked with me at Smith's Docks when he was a young lad and his Uncle John, now deceased, was a friend. I also knew his grandfather John Purvis who was a highly respected Union man at the Docks. |

Notice the background. To the near left, Hawthorn Terrace then the bottom of the bridge while Station Road is directly behind the girls. Also notice the gasholder of Cargo Fleet works. Funny I never noticed it had gone until now! |
