1. At The Normanby

Venue for all our reunions

Hi Folks,
sorry for the delay in putting these pics on the site - we went on holiday (to my son's in Singapore) two days later and didn't get back until the 2nd of November. Then I was busy, got a cold, got jet-lag, and was generally lethargic - until now.

Another thing... I was using a new camera. Being into photography since 1968 I'm often asked by beginners how they can improve their photographic skills and I always say the most important thing is to get to know your camera. In other words become familiar with everything about it. I should have taken my own advice.

Since then I have discovered that I have to watch that the dial with the various programme settings is easily moved accidentally resulting in taking photos on the wrong setting. I watch out for it now but on the night of the reunion I slipped up with a few shots...

2. On the door

Our hosts Marlene and Pam ably assisted by Barbara

Unfortunately this is one of the dud shots.
l-r: Barbara Wilson, Marlene (Tranter) Dales and Pam (Gatenby) Murtha. Behind is ? while Neil Clennigan has just paid his £2.00 entry fee.
This entrance money covers the hire of the room (with bar staff) and the disco and the surplus goes to Charity. Last year the donation went to Breast Cancer Research while this year it was decided to help Prostate Cancer Research. The sum donated was £172.60 and Marlene received a letter and receipt from the Department of Urology at the James Cook University Hospital dated 21st )ctober.

The Letter:
"Can we say a big thank you to everyone from the Victoria Street Central School Reunion for their kind donation towards caring for patients with prostate cancer. It is the most common cancer amongst men and often a forgotten cancer. Thank you again.
Yours sincerely
Dawn Watson
Urology Ward Manager."

This includes everyone who attended, regardless of school.

9. From Portsmouth

Roy Cox and his wife Lorna travelled up from Portsmouth for the do!

And an email from Rick Wilkinson...
"Hi Sir Dick," (He always calls me that - reckons I should be knighted!)
9col blue]"we can all make a mistake in taking a picture as I once mentioned to Anthony Armstrong Jones when he was taking a pic off Liz and Mag... "Don't you think it's better with the lens cap off?" The 2004 reunion was a good night but can be better supported and I commited the sin of not paying my entrance fee, which I innocently forgot to pay, a cheque is on it's way... Down to the business of the reunion pics: pic no 9 Roy Cox and wife Lorna ('now that's a camera Roy) pic no. 10 Roy Cox, wife Lorna and Rick Wilkinson. pic no12 Alan Purvis and John Chard (how does this guy look like he did 40 yrs ago?) pic no.19 Rick Wilkinson, Cliffy Wray (Mr Wonderful!), Jackie Longster and Sister, Roy Cox and his wife Lorna. I hope this helps you Sir Dick. It must be mentioned that Roy Cox made the effort to travel from Portsmouth for the reunion and it was a pleasure to see him ....regards Rick Wilkinson."

Michael said he came to the reunion specifically to meet me. He was doing his family tree and had found a Fawcett branch down the line which he thought might be my of my ancestors who were from Thornton Steward and Castle Bolton near Leyburn in North Yorkshire. We weren't able to talk for long and hoped to get together sometime. Unfortunately I've lost his address and hope that he contacts me again. Over to you Michael.

24. Brian McTurk

Mack lived in Upper Jackson Street and went to The Peter's

A lot of people have said they didn't know Mack but it was because he left South Bank when he was twenty and went to Canada. When he returned he married a Guisborough girl and lived in her home town before moving to Great Ayton.
Later they moved to the USA and lived near Boston, Massachusetts (when the Boston Strangler was loose!) before returning to Guisborough. Finally they settled in Scaling Village over the moors where they have been for a number of years.
