Historic Highlights over last 100 years
Methodists have worshipped in Saltburn by the Sea since 1850. The existing Church, a fine Gothic type Building, celebrates its centenary in June 2005.
1903
Decision is made to build a new Church beside the existing Building in Milton Street.
1905
First Service is held on the 19th June. The original building became the school and meeting rooms.
The schoolrooms allowed for 350 pupils. A number to think about in this present time.
1912
A pipe organ was installed.
1914-18
The First World War, canteen for the forces run by Church Volunteers.
1924
Mrs M. Elder became a member of the Church. She is presently our oldest member and still very active.
1937
Wesleyan/Primitive Churches unite.
1939
Second World War, Forces Canteen operated again on Church premises.
1955
Our present organist, Roger Lobley started playing the organ.
1969
The Albion Terrace Church in the centre of the town closed. Later it became the town’s Community Centre, a town asset.
1998
After a great deal of fund raising the Church organ wascompletely restored.
2004
Improvements to the church enabling access to all parts of the buildings, with a lift to the upstairs hall, and toilets for the disabled were completed.
