South Bank United v North Ormesby Institute
Played at Macmillan Crescent against North Ormesby Institute on Monday Evening.
The team was:
1 James Nelles
2 Gary Naylor
3 Tony Scarth
4 Mark Jahan
5 Terry Mcclaughlin
6 Tony Leech
7 Karl Rennard
8 Terry Strange
9 Brian Crawley
10 Andy Truscott
11 Peter Truscott
12 Dave Larkin
14 Mark Phillips
15 Graham Cousins
This game was played in Heavy rain which made the surface very slippery. Institute started the stronger team and United were forced on the back foot for the first 15 mins but excellent defending from Marco,Scarthy and Terry Kept them at bay. United then fell behind to a sloppy goal that should have been cleared twice, we then attacked at every opportunity and should have levelled before half time.
Second half South Bank were in total control and levelled after 62 mins good work from Peter Truscott forced the keeper into spilling the ball and Brian Crawley finished in style. 1-1
United then went all out for a winner chances went begging from Andy Truscott and Peter Truscott but we could not find the breakthrough so into extra time beckoned. Against the run of play Institute got a second goal and then 4 mins later got a third but united kept going even though Peter Truscott had to come off after running every second of 100 mins. Final Score North Ormesby Institute 3 South Bank United 1 AET.
A great performance from the bankers defensively we looked solid and the Truscott brothers were fantastic. Karl Rennard showed why he is close to playing Football league and at 38 Brian Crawley is still as keen as he was at South Bank AFC 12 years ago, overall a brilliant performance and we will be a threat to any team if we keep this current squad. Marks MOM - Andrew Truscott- an amazing talent who is destined for better things. |

This game would have set up a great South Bank Derby with our local rivals Erimus but it was not to be we did not create a goal bound effort in 90 minutes and will be a game that I will never look back on the opposition were not the strongest but their game plan of spoiling the game worked as we lost 1-0 They were knocked out in the next round by a far superior Erimus side who should have won the Ellis final when winning 2-0 but eventually fitness tolled and they got beat 3-2. |
