The Bygone Years
<< Page under construction >>
This video was made by South Shields Movie Makers in 2001 and runs for 45 minutes.
It was shown on the big screen at The Custom's House, South Shields on the 16th January 2002 to a capacity audience with a repeat performance the following week.
This is a nostalgic look back at the way things used to be, and has three parts:
The Last Steam Ferry - archive footage of the ferry and the people using it with recollections by the people around at the time.
Hodge Removals - a well known South Shields Haulage firm which sadly declined after the war years. 92 year old Marjorie Hodge remembers when she was asked to run the firm in 1945. Old film shows how people used to move house in those days.
South Shields Market - Using photographs and film, Janis Blower of the Cookson Column of the Shields Gazette, gives her views about the Market Place, past and present. There are interviews by the residents with their memories of times gone by.
