After a Lot of Preparation

Saturday July 3th 2004 started bright but blustery, as twenty two boys and girls, together with their families, gathered in St Albans for their First Holy Communion. The girls were dressed in their beautiful white dresses and veils and the boys were smartly dressed, in their dark trousers, white shirts and red sash's.
Fr Ryan welcomed everyone to a packed church and in his homily, stressed the need for parents to accept the responsibility, to encourage their children to continue receiving the Blessed Sacrament, as often as possible. The highlight of the Mass was when all the children, with each member of their families, came forward, to receive the Host for the first time. One thing I noticed, which seems to be a change in tradition, was all children held out their hands for the Host to be placed, not by mouth.Another pleasing thing was the number of parents coming forward for the blessing. After all the preparation, everything went very smoothly, exept for the weather which let us down, just as the children were making their way to the school hall, for their Communion Breakfast. The organisers are to be congratulated, as are the kitchen staff who provided the breakfast.A fitting end was when, on entering the school the children were given a round of applause. For the first time, photographs during the service were not encouraged, as a professional photographer took individual photos, as well as a group photo.A video was also produced, which will be on sale in the school at £3 All proceeds will go to the Church roof fund.

First Holy Communion 6th May 2006

The weather at last was fine when fifteen children made their First Holy Communion in St Albans. This took place unfortunately against the backdrop of St Albans School opposite being in the process of being demolished. The packed congregation sang the first hymn 'Bind Us Together' with great enthusiasm. The girls wore beautiful white dresses and the boys wore dark trousers, white shirt and red tie.Fr Roger welcomed everyone to the children's special day.
The First Communion is always a highlight and this was captured on video.
Afterwards the children made their way to their Communion Breakfast in their beautiful new school hall of St Benedicts on Mersey Rd., where Fr Roger, after saying Grace cut a Communion cake, which all the children were eager to share.

First Communion 2007

It is always difficult to predict the weather and Saturday 23rd June unfortunately was no exception, when 17 boys and girls made their First Holy Communion. The weather was dull and showery.A large congregation of family and friends, felt very proud to see their sons and daughters, each dressed in their best, the girls in their beautiful dresses and the boys dressed in their white shirts and dark trousers, enjoying the occasion. After the Mass a reception was held in the Presbytery where a packed meal was provided whilst the adults enjoyed a glass of wine.A communion cake (pictured above) was cut and distributed and drew to a close a day to remember. Our thanks must go to all who organised this event and prepared both the children and their parents for such an important occasion in their lives. The Altar was as usual decorated with beautiful flowers and banners which set the tone for such a joyous occasion.
