What is your hobby, that gives you a great deal of satisfaction?.
With inexpensive night school classes, the list is endless.Computer studies, are very popular and until you delve into this modern hobby, you won't know what this little box of tricks, has to offer.
Many people, have collections of various sorts and strive to add to them, whenever possible. People collect, Ceramics,Stamps,Dolls,Postcards.Let me know what you collect.
DIY is still very popular, although major jobs tend to disrupt the normal household routine but can save a great deal of money.
It's only fair that I start the ball rolling.
Apart from building this website, as well as others, my main hobby is film making. After twenty five years service in the Steel Industry, I was given a long service award and decided to buy a Camcorder. Not knowing how to use one properly, I went on a course. At the end of the course, we had to produce a film, no longer than ten minutes. Most on the course, decided to film wild life.I tried to think of something out of the ordinary.I decided, to film a football match.I contacted a club and it was agreed, to film a match, featuring nine year olds.I went, I thought fully prepared, but I wasn't prepared for it pouring down rain.I filmed the match, with the camera in a carrier bag with a hole in the end for the lens and it was an hour long but the result was very pleasing.I was on my way.
I have filmed many occasions from 1983 to the present day, from weddings to christenings but four stand out.The first was when Concorde came to Teesside, a magnificent sight. Then a major coup for Teesside, was when George Bush visited irrespective of your political leanings, or the present situation in Iraq, to see and film Air Force One and Airforce Two (two gleaming light blue jumbo jets),sitting on the tarmac at Teesside Airport, was something I won't forget.Security was very tight and there were more Police than spectators. After a word with one Policeman and a wait of about three hours, I was shown a vantage point, to set my camera up, with a clear view of the steps of Airforce One.I did not know when four Helicopters, in line, approached the tarmac, which one carried the President and First Lady.I got a very clear view of President Bush and Mrs Bush walking up the steps, turning, waving to the crowd before entering the plane. The well armed Police marksmen on the roof of the Terminal Building, could then relax.A very memorable day.
Next, must come, when I filmed the bark 'ENDEAVOUR'
leaving the Tees.Redcar and Cleveland Council, didn't liaison with the skipper, to capitalise on such an important occasion. It meant, she came past the South Gare, when it was dark and hundreds of people, mainly elderly, missed the opportunity of seeing her, in full sail.Fortunately, with the modern gadgets on my camera, I filmed her with night vision lost count of the number of people, clambering to look through the camera lens. She is now, I understand en route to Australia, so we wish her, bon voyage.
The fourth must be the Edinburgh Military Tattoo.I filmed the three hour spectacle in the pouring rain,if I moved( because I had purchased a plastic gagoule) the rain water ran down my neck, as well as soak my trousers. The camera was again in a plastic carrier bag, with a hole for the lense. What a spectacular show. If you get an opportunity to see this show, don't miss it.There is a footnote to this story, in that I had the good fortune, to go to Teesside Uni on a course for video editing so I took along the film.During the week, with the help of the tutors, we managed to cut the time down to one hour, with titles and endless special effects. The St Albans Mothers Union were shown the film, during their monthly meeting and they really enjoyed it.
Apart from film making I also collect old books(250)and postcards, inexpensive antiques and ceramic thimbles, which my late wife Margaret started and I have carried on.
Now it's your turn. Don't forget it's your website. Share your hobby or pastime with other Parishioners.
