All Change
Many parishioners will remember the flats that formed the Courts around Low Farm Drive,Roseberry Rd and Hambleton Ave,many will have lived in them either when they were first built or later. They were built in 1968/69 and were demolished in 2002.All local residents were glad to see them go.
Now what of the future?.Massive plans are under way to rebuild.New bungalows are already built on the corner of Roseberry Rd and Hambleton Ave and building is starting along Hambleton Ave as I write.Do we need a Community Centre? Why not build one on the site of St Albans School, the fencing would ensure security and I am sure it will be well used.Parishioners from our Church could use it for Social activities.Food for thought!
I will keep you up todate with the development with photo's etc. What do you think of the plans, let me know, e-mail gedffleming@hotmail.com |

The Oasis Bites the Dust
 | | In the Summer of 1968 the lads on the Yuills Estate off Kirkleatham Lane, would ring each other and walk across open common ground(where the flats were built)and enjoy a couple of pints in a very trendy and comfortable pub and put the world to rights.Over the years great music was made in the Oasis where many groups cut their teeth, alas no more.Over the years it deteriated till it was closed and left deralict to make way for new developemant. Many people who enjoyed a drink in them far off days are now scattered across the Country and abroard but still look back on them barmy days with affection.Have you any memories of the Oasis?. |

The Shops are going one by one
 | | Roseberry Sqare built in 1964 which in the past two year has suffered appallingly from the yob culture, who's sole aim was to destroy the very fabric, has finally began to come down. The authorities appeared to turn a blind eye.You did not venture into the Square after dark. What does this say about our society and the lack of law enforcement?.Food for thought. The old Post Office, the Bakers Shop, the Butchers and the Fish Shop are no more.Lets hope when the new centre is up and running CCTV is on every corner so we can nip any vandalism and loutish bahavior in the bud or better still fence it off. |

New Pub?
On the grapevine-
New Pub being built on the corner of Low Farm Drive and Roseberry Rd.The story goes that protesters complaining of the closeness of the Pelican Crossing on Roseberry Rd to the entrance to the car park asked the council to change the configuration of the new shopping centre car park so as to make it one way.The entrance being on Roseberry Rd as is now and the exit to be the old road leading to the old Roseberry Rd Shopping Centre. It was then the truth was revealed No Post Office but brand new pub incorporating the old road. Some firms have very persuasive powers to build over existing roads and destroy beautiful established trees in the name of progress.Lets hope this is not blighted in ten year.Look at how many have gone to the wall in Middlesbrough. |
