The Charity Busker

Norman is well known in Redcar for his busking in the High St

A Date With The Queen

Norman, who plays the organ at St Albans, is pictured being presented to Her Majesty and receiving the MBE for his charitable work.He tells the story of the Investiture, when everyone was waiting in the room next door and part of the ceiling collapsed, narrowingly missing one of the guests. When he was presented to Her Majesty, she pinned the medal to his lapel and congratulated him on his achievement but Norman, being slightly deaf, had to ask her to repeat what she had said. She leaned over and with a smile, said she sometimes has the same problem. His family looked on, justifiebly pleased at his achievement and honour.I belong to a group where Norman has entertained many times and made many friends. Norman can be seen in all weathers playing to passersby and raising thousands of pounds for local charities including the RNLI who have made him a honourary member.

New Organ

A new organ was provided by Norman, who plays at St Albans, from generous contributions made to him while he was busking in the High St,.

Freedom of the Borough for Norman Evans MBE

St Albans Congregation would like to offer our heartfelt congratulations on Normans justified award of the Freedom of the Borough of Redcar and Cleveland. In a glittering reception at Guisbrough Hall Hotel, many Councillors highlighted how Norman can be found in all weathers, entertaining passersby with his accordian and guitar in the High St.Over the years it has been estimated Norman has raised over £250,000 for Charities in the area.Norman in return was overwhelmed by the honour and wished to thank his wife Ethel, who he said was his rock over the forty years they have been married and he could not have raised the money without her help.

Entertaining

Norman entertaining guests at a concert marking the 60th anniverary of the end of the War.Miss Joyce Dowding kindly organised the Concert in Coatham Lodge in aid of the RNLI.A fantastic £107 was raised and everyone had a great time singing along to War time tunes.

Waving The Flag

Joyce Dowding and other members of the audience sing along with War time songs sung by Norman
