The Mighty Wurlitzer Organ
In the quiet village of Howden le Wear, near Crook, you would not expect to find a working example of the mighty Wurlitzer theatre organs which used to grace the early cinemas in the 20th century. When cinemas fell out of fashion, overtaken by TV and video, most of the old organs which had entertained cinema audiences for generations went to the scrap heap. A group of enthusiasts saved and transferred the present organ from its location at Bradford to the New Victoria Centre, Howden le Wear.
