When cinemas fell out of fashion, overtaken by TV and video, most of the old organs which had entertained cinema audiences for generations went to the scrap heap. A group of enthusiasts saved and transferred the present organ from its location at Bradford to the New Victoria Centre, Howden le Wear. North East Theatre Organ Association NETOA arranges an annuaul programme of musical and social events which are open usually to both club members and to the general public. NETOA is particularly keen to promote active music making and therefore playing time on the organ is specifically set aside at certain times for young people to perform on it, Special playing weekends are arranged throughout the year.
