Welcome to the Stanwick Group of Churches

The Stanwick Group of Churches is a united benefice which comprises the Church of England parishes of Forcett, Aldbrough St. John and Melsonby in beautiful, rural North Yorkshire within the Diocese of Ripon and Leeds.
The picture above shows the towers of Stanwick (nearest) and Forcett (distant with blue clock) churches taken on the field walk from Aldbrough to Stanwick. This was the route the people of Aldbrough had to take to walk to church before the present church building was erected in Aldbrough in 1890.
You will find a map of the area covered by the parish in the page of links to the parish. There are also links to other sites of interest including the village web-sites for some of the villages in our benefice.
This site has been created mainly as an additional information source for the people of the parish but we hope that if you are from outside the area you will get a flavour of an area that is pleasant to live in both in terms of its scenery and its inhabitants.

'Bespoke' Parish Web-site
This current site is intended just to give the parish a web presence.
A bespoke parish site is under construction but is taking longer than expected as I do not wish to go on-line until I am totally confident with the software and have a site with which both I and the Rector feel satisfied.
In the meantime I hope you agree that the Communigate format is very acceptable in being good looking and easy to use. |

It used to be possible to contact people in our Guest Book via email but unfortunately the 'spammers' began using that route to access large numbers of addressees and so that facility was withdrawn by the site hosters. If you wish to contact us and get a reply, please use the email form which also will be spam checked and sent on to our webmaster.
If we get enquiries from people following the same line of research we will endeavour to let them know of each other and possibly put them in touch subject to agreement by all. |

2009 Lent Lunch
 The Lent Lunch this year will be held on Thursday 19 March in Aldbrough St John village hall.
For a donation of £5 (or more) you will get a bowl of delicious, home-made, piping hot soup, a roll, a portion of butter and a chunk of cheese. There will be a limitless supply of water to drink.
This is more than many of the people we hope to help will get.
This year funds raised will go to Bishop John's appeal for a fund to provide more assistance to grow our links with the Diocese of Sri Lanka. |
