Entry to Langdales

St James' church, Melsonby held their garden fete on Saturday 17 June at Langdales, a fine Victorian house between Melsonby and Aldbrough. To get into the fete it was necessary to get past John Frost who was manning the gate. If you have seen our local church & community magazine for July you'll have seen his picture on the cover.

Everything's Yellow

One of the features of Melsonby's fete is that they always have one stall that is devoted to a particular colour so any items that are predominantly that colour can be found there. This year it was yellow and you can see they found a wide variety of yellow things to sell there.

The Plants

The Plant Stall is always a favourite. Maybe it's the setting in the fabulous gardens of Langdales that set people off thinking they can create the same effect with a couple of patio pots and a patch of lawn the size of the average table-cloth. The stall is run by Christine and David Selby who also put an incredible amount of background work into the whole event.

Books and things

The book stall is always a useful opportunity to clear out books one no longer wants and buy new ones to read. Then they can always go back into next year's fete.
There was also some amazing bric a brac on this stall.
It was a lovely hot, sunny day and here Shiela Grundy is relaxing in the shade of the trees for a few quiet moments.

Tombola

Brian and Vanessa Thomas made a great job of running the tombola as usual though judging from the tickets we bought, those that ended in 5 hadn't made it into the drum.
However, all the prizes went so someone must have won them.

And the Raffle

The raffle is always a money spinner though looking at the prizes, the Melsonby people are a somewhat boozy lot. On the other hand maybe they aren't, so they give any bottles given to them to the fete as prizes.
Whatever, it was a great succes and the raffle organisers here are ensuring that all tickets are properly folded, entered and well mixed for the draw.

The Big Buns

The Melsonby Branch of the WI always does the catering for their garden fete. The strawberry scones are to die for.
And the WI is an organisation that does not believe in hiding its light under a bushel.

Thanks to a lot of hard work by the whole organising team and the generosity of those attending, St James' made £2795 from its garden fete.
