Christine Selby
Christine Selby, church-warden and sacristan at the church of St James the Great, Melsonby since 1999.
She writes about herself:
"I've lived in Melsonby with my husband and two sons since 1984. As well as the home and family, I work as a clinical trials pharmacist, I'm an active partner in my husband's consultancy company, and serve as a magistrate, so there's never a dull moment!" |
Aldbrough Churchwardens
 | New churchwardens elected in April 2005 are John Gill (l) and Jim Coote (r).
This picture was taken after the service in Stanwick church on 29 May 2005.
You can see Jim again further down the page. |

Forcett Churchwarden
Peter Dowson has been Churchwarden at St. Cuthbert's, Forcett for over 30 years. He took over from his father some time in the mid-1970s but he can't remember exactly when as it seems to be a task that has been very much a Dowson family responsibility.
Peter is a farmer and lives in Eppleby. |
Forcett Churchwarden
Wilfred Ernest Anderson, Churchwarden at Forcett has lived in the parish for over 60 years and farms at Caldwell. He has been churchwarden for more than 10 years. |
Graham Smith
Graham Smith has been churchwarden at Melsonby for about 3 years now.
He is shown here with a pair of fine stained glass windows which he says make him look holier than he really is. |
Stephen and Joan Harwood
Stephen and Joan have been Treasurer and Secretary respectively of the Parochial Church Council at St James the Great, Melsonby for about 8 years.
They have lived in the village since 1989 so are almost regarded as 'locals' by now. |
Malcolm and Edna Partridge
 | Malcolm and Edna Partridge have lived in East Layton since 1980 so can almost qualify as locals by now.
Malcolm Partridge
Malcolm is a professional portrait painter and his picture above shows him in his choir robes, standing in front of a self portrait.
He sings in the Stanwick Group choir as a tenor which means he gets to worship in all the churches in the benefice, but the Partridge's home church is Christ Church, East Layton where Malcolm has been Treasurer since 1984.
Malcolm has no intention of retiring as a portrait painter and has painted pictures of a number of eminent people. (We will be happy to pass on email enquiries abour commissions)

Edna Partridge
Edna Partridge trained as a stained glass designer and painter and is pictured here beside a magnificent example of her art in their home. Two other of Edna's stained glass windows grace St Cuthbert's church, Forcett.
Edna is a member of the choir singing soprano. She has also served on the Forcett PCC as well as carrying out other duties within the parish for many years.
She says she has retired from producing stained glass windows |
Jim & Judith Coote
Jim and Judith Coote are active church members at St Paul's, Aldbrough St John but are also frequently seen at other churches in the benefice. Jim is a sidesman at St Paul's, Judith is a member of the PCC and also helps with children's activities such as the Junior church and the new Praise and Play on Tuesday afternoons.
On 29 August 2004 they celebrated their 40th (Ruby) wedding anniversary by having a blessing as part of the Sung Eucharist at St John's Stanwick. Much to their surprise, a huge party of family and friends had been arranged for lunchtime immediately afterwards.
Our photo shows them outside Stanwick church just after the service. |
Doreen Liston - Licensed Reader
Doreen comes originally from Liverpool and says that the Liverpudlian sense of humour is one thing she misses living in North Yorkshire.
It took two years to get her to stand still long enough to take this picture.
As Reader to the Stanwick Group Doreen has an important role in the running of the parishes and often takes services when the priest-in-charge is away. |
New Assistant Area Dean of Richmond
On 12 September 2005 Revd Stanley Haworth was commissioned as Assistant Area Dean of Richmond by the Bishop of Knaresborough, James Bell during a service of Holy Communion in Aldbrough Parish Church.
Following the service clergy members of the Richmond Deanery held their monthly chapter meeting in the Rectory.
Our picture shows Peter Midwood, Area Dean, James Bell, Bishop of Knaresborough and Stanley Haworth, Priest in Charge of the Stanwick Group of Churches outside St Paul's church, Aldbrough St John before the service. |
