Display of Registers

If you want to contact us to ask for information, please use the mail form facility rather than the Guestbook. It has been necessary to remove the ability to respond to entries made in the Guestbook as unscrupulous people were using these email addresses as a route to gather addresses to which to send spam.
Once the full site is up and running recent register entries will be displayed for 12 months after their first appearance.
If you are researching your family history and wish to consult old parish registers, you should find all old registers for the churches in this benefice lodged with the North Yorkshire County Archive Service at Northallerton.

Stanwick Churchyard
 | A plan of Stanwick churchyard has been drawn up and the graves recorded by churchwarden Foster Turner.
If you are interested in information from Stanwick churchyard, please email us and we can send you an Excel spreadsheet listing all names and dates recorded in Stanwick church and churchyard, and an indication where each grave can be found on the churchyard plan plus details of cremated remains in Aldbrough churchyard.
If you have previously had a copy of an Excel spreadsheet from us, we now have the updated one you may have been told of as a future possibility, available.
If you visit Stanwick churchyard please note that though the church building is in the care of the Churches Conservation Trust, the churchyard is still the responsibility of the PCC. It's upkeep is a heavy financial responsibility on our funds and if you are able to send a donation towards it, details and envelopes ready addressed are available in the church. Thank you. |

Melsonby Banns Book closes
On March 13th the current Banns of Marriage Register for St James’ Church Melsonby was used for the last time. Carla Nixon and her fiancé Philip Jackson who are to be married in Melsonby this month were the last couple to have their Banns read from it.
The first couple were Robert Barker and Jane Watson back in 1824.
The historic document will now be deposited in the Diocesan Archives at the North Yorkshire County Record Office in Northallerton. There it can be properly preserved and made available for research. Although it will be in the archives, it remains parish property and is in the public domain.
Before it was deposited we celebrated the register’s life with a special service in Melsonby Church on Sunday June 12th. This took the form of a Songs of Praise with favourite wedding hymns chosen by parishioners being sung. (Though we didn't get 'Fight the good fight' or 'Dear Lord and Father of Mankind forgive our foolish ways')
The full banns book has been photographed, transferred onto PDF files and put onto CD which is available for puchase in aid of St James' Melsonby. If you would like a copy, email us and we'll arrange to get one to you.
