Children in the benefice
Most of the young children who live in Aldbrough, Stanwick and Carlton attend Middleton-Tyas Church of England Primary School.
There is a link to the school web site on our Links page.
Eppleby/Forcett also has a Church of England Primary School and their end of term services are usually held in either Caldwell or Forcett church.
There is a link to the school web site on our Links page.
Melsonby children attend Melsonby Methodist Primary School. Since the closure of the Methodist chapel in Melsonby in 2005 the school has developed a closer relationship with St James church and we were very pleased to have the children take part in the benefice Harvest Festival in October.
Their web site is still under construction but once it is available we will add a link.
Older children in the benefice usually attend school in Richmond.

'Klever Kids'
OK kids - so I can't spell!
But let's see how clever YOU are!
See if you can answer our quiz-quez. Use the e-mail link to send in your answer
What is the big word that is often used to mean 'bell ringing'?
P.S. Real bell-ringers hate it being used about them
If you like, you can also use our e-mail link to send a quiz-quez to us to see if we can answer it. If it's really good we might use it as a future Klever Kids Quiz-quez.
REMEMBER - only answer this quiz-quez or send in your question if you have your parents' permission. |
For Parents
Parents - Please note the following
The Diocese of Ripon and Leeds has published guidelines on the use of the internet with regard to children. The rector and webmaster had already agreed similar guidelines before the diocesan ones were published. We adhere to these guidelines and do our best to ensure our site is safe for children to use and nothing on it can put children at risk. However, if you feel we have failed in these aims, please contact us to let us know how we can improve it. |
Worship for Children
Children are welcome at ALL servcies in the benefice and it is a source of sadness that we see so few in our churches. However, the following services and activities are intended particularly to encourage families to make and keep contact with the church.
Family Service
This is held at Melsonby at 10.30 on the first Sunday of every month. It is a shorter and simpler service than the 'traditional' ones and the talk in particular is aimed at children often including participation by them. Even so, that does not make it any less relevant to the older members of the congregation.
Festivals
At Christmas and for Harvest Festival there is often a service that is particularly appropriate for younger children such as the Christingle and Crib services before Christmas and a family Harvest Service on the Sunday following the more formal Harvest Festival Evensong.
We would love to see you and your children there even if you are not normally a churchgoer
Details of all these services are shown on the calendar pages of this web-site, in PARISH FACES and often via a leaflet delivered to every house in the benefice.
CHILDREN WELCOME HERE.

New Family Service Initiative
A new style family service is being introduced in Melsonby church on Sunday 3 June. Several young mums who wanted a style of worship more appropriate for their young children set up a working group and came up with lots of ideas. They have made or bought things for the children to play with or learn from and they have asked for more use of those hymns and songs that the children know from school to be incorporated into the service.
The NEW Family Friendly service will be in Melsonby church on the first Sunday of every month so if you have kids, bring them along to meet new or old friends. |
