James Cook – Marton’s most distinguished son, Captain James Cook, R.N., F.R.S

H.W.F. Bolckow – Co-founder member of Teesside’s Iron and Steel Industry who, after making his fortune, came to live in Marton in 1860, having become lord of the Manor in 1853, built Marton Hall on the site of a former house burnt down in 1832.

Memorials to him, and his family, as well as their graves can be found in and around the Church. (See also ‘The Churchyard’ and ‘Buildings/Architecture’ Pages.

John Vaughan – Co-founder member of Teesside’s Iron and Steel Industry who, after making his fortune, came to live in Marton in 1860 having built Gunnergate Hall. Memorials to him, and his family, as well as their graves can be found in and around the Church.

Agnes Spencer – Widow of the co-founder of Marks and Spencers. After the last war the vestry in the Church was built as a gift from Mrs. Spencer.. The Agnes Spencer Trust also defrayed the whole cost of St. Agnes Church, Easterside, Middlesbrough.
