Mothers' Union - St. James Branch

The Mothers' Union at St. James meets on the first Wednesday of each month in St. James Church Hall on Front Street. They meet to pray, worship, to be informed on issues concerning family life, and to carry out the aims and objects of the MU.

The Mothers' Union runs the Little Shells Toddler Group that meets in the Church Hall.

Meeting Times

October to April - 2.00pm
May to September - 7.00pm

Celebration of Marriage

St. James Mothers' Union presented an exhibition in the church on the theme of Celebration of Marriage. This is the national Mothers' Union theme for 2006. The exhibition was over the weekend of May 20th and 21st.

Mothers' Union members amongst the wedding dresses

MU members stand amongst some of the Wedding Dresses lent for the exhibition.

Marriage Register and Ring Cushion

One of the Church Marriage Registers was on display. Look in the background and you will see a stole especially made to be worn by the priest at weddings at St. James.

Visit to Hexham Abbey

The Mothers' Union visited Hexham Abbey on June 7th 2006. After an excellent guided tour we all joined the congregation and choir for Sung Evensong. The crypt dating back to the foundation of the Abbey by St. Wilfred was fascinating. Here are the members of the Mothers' Union in the crypt.

The Mothers' Union Prayer

Loving Lord
We thank you for your love
so freely given to us all.
We pray for families around the world.
Bless the work of the Mothers' Union
as we seek to share your love
through the encouragement, strengthening
and support of marriage and family life.
Empowered by your Spirit,
may we be united in prayer and worship,
and in love and service reach out
as your hands across the world.
In Jesus' name.
Amen.
