About us
The original idea for a Darlington Storysacks was developed by a small committee drawn from local enthusiasts, and was made possible initially by financial support from several local business sponsors, the Mayor's Charitable Fund and the New Opportunities Fund. The Association became a registered charity in Autumn 1999.
Darlington Toy Library opened in April 2001 and was initially developed to loan quality play resources to young children attending Corporation Road School. Initial funding was very similar to that of Darlington Storysacks. The project became more and more popular resulting in the expansion of the service to children throughout Darlington.
In April 2006 the two projects combined to form Darlington Storysack and Toy Resources, enabling us to provide a comprehensive selection of quality reading and play resources throught the Darlington area, providing services to the Darlington Surestart Partnership and our members.
The two storysack development workers, Wendy and Becky, are involved in developing the Lending Library, delivering storytelling and sackmaking sessions whilst supporting and encouraging Early Years providers who wish to develop their own
in-house Storysacks programmes.
The toy resource development worker Lindsey together with Jane the project co-ordinator, run Stay and Play activity sessions for parents and their young children, alongside toy loan sessions at a wide range of venues in Darlington including Surestart Children's Centres.
We are currently sited at Corporation Road Community Primary School. We offer free membership and use of our Loan Scheme to all parents and carers of children within the Darlington Area.
We offer a free delivery service to families and childcare settings, schools etc.in the Darlington area.
The project is supported by a group of dedicated trustees, elected each year by the members at the AGM. A full copy of the charity's constitution can be obtained from the Treasurer on request.
