Situated on the seafront in the working headquarters of the Sunderland Volunteer Life Brigade Search and Coastal Rescue, this small museum tells the full story of over 100 years of lifesaving in Sunderland.
The museum records the saving of 796 lives and displays memorabilia of ships which have been subject to rescues, along with pictures of the immediate riverside.
The museum houses the Sunderland VLB Coastal Search and Cliff Rescue Team, a declared facility of HM Coastguard, who are on call 24 hours a day to assist those in distress on the coast.
The station also houses the Sunderland Coastwatch, another facility used to help save lives on the coast by providing a pair of eyes with the available equipment and communications means to aid those in distress both onshore and offshore.
