Member's Page
Tees Cottage Pumping Station is run by volunteers who carry out maintenance, run the engines, tea rooms and shop and who work behind the scenes to keep the place going. On the social side of things, we have get togethers (often a barbecue in the Boiler House) and, about once a year, visit other sites.
Please email by using the Mail Form (see Contents list) for more information on becoming a member. If any current members have anything to put on this page please email me.

WE NEED YOU!
Don't forget to come along to our workdays, revised day of 2nd Sunday of the month- there's always plenty to do, and something to suit everyone. Please contact a member of the committee before making the journey to ensure the work day is going ahead (telephone numbers can be found on your membership card).
Don't forget that the Tea Room needs cakes for our next Open Day. Following a suggestion and research by Steven Prentice we will now feature links to cake baking websites. As Steven put it, there would be 'no excuses then' for members not contributing in this way |

Visits for members
We have regular organised visits to other similar sites. These have included visits to Ryhope Engines Museum in May 2001, to Teesdale on 7th April 2002, Elsecar and Kelham Island on 16th February 2003, Papplewick Pumping Station in August 2004 and the Ellenroad Engine House in 2006. At Ryhope, members saw the engines working and had the opportunity to go on the Aidensfield vintage bus. For the Teesdale trip we went by coach to Lartington water works, Hury dam, Killhope lead mining centre and Allenheads. Would anyone who went on the other trips in care to submit an account of the day?

Elsecar
On a cold day in February about a dozen intrepid members finally made it to Elsecar, after many months of discussion. We visited the Elsecar Living History centre, which had some interesting items on display and telling the history of the Elsecar workshops and the Fitzwilliam family. We were then given a guided tour of the Newcomen Beam engine, the main reason for our visit. Although it is non-operational it was still fascinating. We followed this with a walk to the Dearne and Dove canal, lunch in the café and shopping in the craft workshops.

Kelham Island
At Kelham Island, in Sheffield, we saw the mighty River Don Rolling Mill engine, possibly the largest working steam engine in a museum in the country. There was also a Crossley Gas Engine and workshops of the ‘Little Mesters’ along with other displays. A very enjoyable day out for all who went despite it being a little early in the museum visiting season.
