A new FREE programme for 16-25 yr olds living in Darlington
Options is a free programme for young people in Darlington who want to get into Volunteering, We have set up some opportunities within the tees valley region including
- A Mobile Skate Park,
- Work with the Durham wildlife trust,
- The forestry commission at Hamsterley
- Allotment which volunteers can plant and grow their own organic fruit & vegtables.
The program lasts for 12 weeks on a Monday & tuesday.
If you want to volunteer but dont want to be part of a group we can help you find a placement doing whatever it is YOU want to do.
We also hope that the volunteers will come up with some ideas for activities, which we will be happy to arrange.
The Aim of volunteering is to help you gain confidence and skills, as well as valuable life experience and also make new friends and HAVE FUN.

Information technology and buisiness
if you want to gain some qualifications in ICT and/or Buisiness, we can help you to find your starting point by assessing the skills you already have then you can choose from many diffrent "bitesize" units, for example:
-introduction to using the internet
-intruduction to using Wordprocessing software
-introduction to using ICT systems
-and many, many more
you will gain a recognised qualification, from OCN, and a certificate
Some units can be achieved in as little as 10 hours. you can either work as part of a group, or individualy,at you own pace, with help as and when you need it.

Essential Skills
If you want to improve on your essential skills(reading, writting and number skills for every day life), We will help you to assess your existing skills, and decide on a programme that's just for you
YOU will design the programme, so you dont have to waste time doing things you already feel confident you can do.
if you want to gain a qualification, we will help you prepare to take the adult literacy/numeracy tests.
If you dont want to gain a qualification, you can still work on Essential Skills,such as
-Money management
-Using timetables
-Witing letters
-Researching a topic
-Writing assignments
-Listening
-Preparing presentations
or whatever you think you need to improve on- you choose!
