The Cleveland Scene

Mr. and Mrs. Chris Appleby of The Cleveland Coatham was once a separate village to Redcar and, although long since forged into one town, it still maintains it's own identity circulating mainly around The Cleveland Hotel. (Of course the clientele loyal to our other two pubs - The Lobster and Red Barns - will dispute that!) Just a few years ago The Cleveland was in a sorry state but new landlords (and now owners) Chris and Lindsey Appleby turned it around and now it is a Community focal point. Nothing demonstrated this more than when the couple got married and the whole pub joined in the celebrations. It was on the 21st of September 2002 that Chris Appleby "made an honest woman" of his partner Lindsey James when they were married at Christ Church, Coatham, Redcar. The solemn ceremony quickly turned into a carnival atmosphere as everyone trooped back to the pub.
