To a forgotten hero.

When you went to that faraway land,
Head held high, gun in hand,
Did you ever wonder why you'd be
Fighting in a country,
So far away from home?
Did you know how long you'd be gone?
You spent years on a foreign shore,
What were you fighting for?

They said it was for the best,
That they sent soldiers from the west,
But what they forgot to tell,
Was how you'd get through all the hell.
Through the troubles and the strife,
You never thought you'd give your life,
For a cause you didn't understand,
In a place so far from your motherland.

So now, each year in November,
Those that made it back remember,
You - their fallen friend,
With a sadness that never ends,
Some of us will never know,
Why it was you had to go,
In our hearts you are so near,
Even though you're still in Korea.

THE WAR IN KOREA.

Mountains high of mud and stone
Saturated now with blood and bone
Screaming shells, anguished cries
As many a man falls and lies
Searing fire, seeking lead, leaving
Wounded lying beside the dead.

Listen as a Burp gun cracks
Signalling the enemies' new attacks
Flashing jets on bombing runs
The ceaseless thunder of artillery guns.

The crashing roar of a mortor shell
Hardly noticed in this piece of hell
A roaring flash, a soldier's cry
"Oh God,Oh God,I'm going to die."

Twisted limbs, half-choked screams
All tied in with shattered dreams
The aid station, a change of dressing
A doctor's curse, a chaplain's blessing

The skies above look down and weep
On wasted men in eternal sleep
A telegram, a loved one's tears
No more waiting, no more fears
Widows made, children born
Their unknown fathers, long to mourn.
