The United States of America
50th Anniversary
The Korean War 1950-1953
The Branch are Commemorative Partners in this Project. We are entitled to fly the flag and display the Certificate of Partnership with the United States of America.
All of our Members have been presented with a Metal Lapel Pin showing their allegiance.
The so called forgotten war, will never be forgotten by those who went to that awful country to answer the call to combat communism. As in all such circumstances there were good times and bad, but none of them will ever be forgotten, neither will those who were destined to stay forever in that faraway land. The land of the Morning Calm they called it, not many mornings were. The 'Flag' proudly displayed at the head of this column forges another link in the chain that binds us with the United States of America in the Partnership initiated in the terrible conflict that joined the Nation's in unison in the Korean War of 1950-1953.
About the Flag
The Flag symbolises the unified stand taken by the Allies, the Republic of Korea and the United States of America in their fight against Communist aggression on the Peninsula of Korea in 1950.The light Blue and White Streamer is the UN Battle Streamer whilst the 22 stars represent the 22 Allied Nations that fought side by side to save South Korea. The words 'Freedom is not Free' were added by American Veterans, who more than anyone knew at first hand the enormous cost of Liberty. The Flag is written in English and Korean (Hangul) languages, surmounting the Taeguk symbol from the Korean Flag, popular to many as the symbol for the philosophy of Yin and Yang known in Korea as Eum and Yang, the symbol stands for Peace and Harmony and the flag was adopted by South Korea as their official commemorative flag.
About the Logo
The 3 lobed Taeguk known as the Sam-Taeguk represents the red and white stripes of the United States, the dark blue of South Korea and the light blue of the UN with 22 Gold Stars depicting the 20 UN countries plus non-UN Members Italy and the Republic of Korea all of whom took part in the Korean War.
By tradition the Taeguk shown on the flag of the Republic of Korea represents 2 states of being, heaven and earth (spiritual and physical)
The Sam-Taeguk stands for 3 states of being. Heaven, Earth and man, where man embraces both the spiritual and the physical. The wreath and gold lettering symbolize 'honour and excellence' The United States of America will honour it's Korean Veterans throughout the commemorative period (3 years) for the sacrifices made in the battle to preserve a free and democratic republic. |
