CARE FOR YOUR AREA - WHAT DO THEY DO FOR US?

Services Care for Your Area provide:-

Weekly domestic Refuse Collection –

Issue and replacement of wheeled bins. £25 cost (incl VAT) for replacement bins.

Help for anyone physically unable to put their bins out for collection.

Notification in writing of any changes to collection days.

No current plans to change the refuse collection service from weekly to fortnightly.

Bulky Waste Collection

Removal of up to 6 items of waste for £10 (incl VAT), eg fridges, mattresses, tables, wardrobe, three piece suite etc.

Items such as bathroom/kitchen units, fencing, sheds, doors, building rubble etc – prices start from £17.63 (inc VAT).

Street Cleansing

Weekly litter pick and will respond to additional requests within 24 – 48 hours.

4 weekly mechanic sweeper to clean road channels.

Removal of graffiti, fly-tipped waste, chewing gum from public highways.

Provision of community skips

Annual week spraying on all pavements, clear becks.

Empty litter bins.

Removal dog foul from public highways and empty dog waste bins.

Re-cycling Services

Kerbside collection service for the recycling of paper, tin scans, aluminium foil and glass bottles and jars.

Collection of green waste.

There is also a civic amenity site, situated on Haverton Hill Road (Tel: 01642 202300), where general household waste, rubbish, bulky items and recyclable waste can be taken. Opening hours are –

8am – 7pm (1st April to 31st October)

8am – 6pm (1st November to 31st March)

Highways Maintenance

Repair pot holes and damaged paving on public highways.

Install and maintain street furniture, ie signage and street nameplates.

Clean and maintain gullies, grit roads, maintain salt bins and carry out highway inspections.

Install and maintain dropped kerbs, carry out highway improvement schemes and provide skip and scaffolding licences. (A quote can be provided on request for a dropped kerb application).

Horticultural Services

Cut grass verges and public open spaces 14 times per year.

Maintain sports pitches, ornamental areas, flower and shrub beds.

Spray all lamp columns and street nameplates 3 to 4 times each year.

Issues reported to Care for Your Area.

East End of Village

1. Outside Church – plate off back of illuminated road sign – access to electrics

2. Condition of dual carriage way from Tesco to top of bank going north and vice versa

3. Condition of hedging opposite church on other side of dual carriageway

4. Is it possible to have some form of planting at entrance to village?
What is the policy for plants / flowers in the borough – Norton, Billingham and Thornaby?
This request is for all areas of the village

North End of Village

1. St James’s Close – Are the trees getting to big for the Close

2. Houses in Old Durham Road – Chicken Run. Were owned by housing association – but people who have bought them are still paying a grass cutting fee even though they do not want grass cut.

3. Houses in Old Durham Road – Chicken Run. Who is responsible for hedge cutting?

4. Houses in Old Durham Road – Chicken Run. Why is there no pavement next to road?

5. Hole in ground on village green – next to bus shelter

6. Who is responsible for up keep of bus shelter?

7. Can we have a pot of paint to hide graffiti which is the same colour?

8. Can four glass tiles / bricks be fitted in the bus shelter so that we can see the bus coming without getting wet?

9. Is it possible for the wooden seats in village - two seats and three benches to be stained / protected on a regular basis – give us the material and we will do it.

10. Condition of heading on road through centre of village near to junction at triangle.

11. Condition of heading on road through centre of village near to Vicars Bridge.

12. Fly tipping in cut opposite to Hell Hole Lane.

South End of Village

1. Condition of Old Durham Road up hill behind Hamilton Russell.

2. Fly tipping along the cycleway from Letch Lane to Old Durham Road.

3. ‘The hedge on Bank Terrace rarely gets cut and when it does it looks like a bad hair day.
I appreciate there can be problems with cars parked but if notice was given the hedge could be left clear.


4. The Kerbside re-cycling containers are not big enough for fortnightly collections

5. How often do we get a road sweeper round the village?’


West End of Village

1. Condition of road in Mill Terrace.

2. Condition of footpath in School Close

3. Lighting in Mill Terrace / Footpath to School Close.

4. What is the policy for ‘Recycling Bins / Bags ‘be put out for collection? How early can they be put out before collection?

5. Condition of Thorpe Beck -

General

1. Fly Tipping in all areas of village and outlying land.

2. Do ‘Care for Your Area’ have a remit to help villages look more attractive?
