American Outline

The drawing of an idea for a club loco, this was put to paper about five years ago.

Taking shape

This photo shows the club loco idea taking shape. The main frame is of welded angle, and the body is all made from 12mm plywood.

Getting there

This photo will give a better idea of the aim of what is trying to be achived.

"FINISHED"

A club member with grandson in the finished loco. It is intended to use this colour scheme as the club livery.
Information regarding the working "bits" of the American Outline.
The main frame is of welded angle supported on two bogies which are based on the design of Brian Howarth of Parkside Electronics. The body is all made from 12mm plywood.
The unit is powered by four 200 watt motors running at 24 volts. Electronic speed control being designed and built "in house". Four heavy duty 12 volt batteries are installed within the body and when fully charged the locomotive can be operated for about four hours.
The American Outline is fitted with air brakes working from an on board compressor unit.

"Bagnal".

7 1/4 inch gauge model of a "BAGNAL" narrow gauge 0-4-0 saddle tank industrial locomotive.
This model was built by the owner(Big Ken Tweddle)
using drawings and some materials obtained from M.J.Engineering, in conjunction with a series of articals run in "Engineering in Miniature" from 1987 onwards.
This is one of the two steam loco's that are the main stay of the clubs steam loco's (so far)

History in the making

Loco information.

The loco shown making the first full lap of the TSGR elevated track is a 31/2" "Juliet". This loco was designed by th "LBSC" of great renown, and this version was made to the "words and music" of the Mark I design.
First described in the Model Engineer in 1946, it has inside slide valves and Stephenson reversing valve gear. An addition made by the builder is the tender, added to increase water supply and a handy container for coal. It is unusual to see a tank loco with a tender!
The loco was brought out of retirement of some 35 years for this occasion. More locos were made to this design than any of the other 60 or so designs by this prolific master. A Mark II version with Baker valve gear and outside slide valves appeared later.

Richards "Romulus"

Romulus Information

Builder-Great Northern Steam Company-Works No12
The engine is built on a "Romulas" chassis including cylinders and motion.
The boiler has been slightly modified from the original design and is more in-line with the current boiler design for this type of engine.
Castings etc, are therefor "off the shelf"
The completed design is a "look-alike W.G.Bagnell engine type "Central" works No 1896 of April 1909. Built to a gauge of 500 mm for the Central Uruguay Eastern Extension Railway, probably for the construction work.It's working history is a mystery.
