OLYMPIC SWIMMER PRAISES VILLAGERS' HEALTH ATTITUDE
Olympic swimmer Nick Gillingham saluted St Johns Chapel Town Hall for setting up its own community gym. Mr Gillingham who won Olympic silver in the 1988 games opened the Community Fitness Gym on Wednesday 24th May.
St Johns Chapel Town Hall has signed up to a scheme which allows local people to benefit from the latest fitness equipment in the country. The Town Hall Committee will have one year to raise £15.000 for the cost of the suite, but they are confident that they will succeed.
The facility has been set up in the wake of the successful Wellness On Wheels (WOW!) mobile gym initiative which has now moved to new passtures green but has left behind a permanent legacy in St Johns Chapel Town Hall.
At a ceremony to open the new suite Mr Gillingham said "Statistics are saying the next generation will not live as long as this generation. We must do everything we can to encourage people to lead more healthy lifestyles"
