Whitby Pavilion Theatre
 | Sir George Elliott built this traditional proscenium arch theatre, originally called the Westcliff Saloon, in 1878 for his wife, a former Gaiety Girl!
It soon became the centre of “variety” and the arts for miles around. The gargoyles on the outside of the building are said to depict famous actors of the day. Purchased by the local authority in 1915, the policy of providing all-round family entertainment has continued over the years.
This is the venue where Whitby Amateur Dramatic Society have staged their productions for many years, including two nights a week during the height of the summer season.
The Theatre provides us with:
* Excellent sound and light systems.
* 322 seats in the stalls – 145 banked seats in the circle.
* Proscenium arch theatre with raked stage.
* The stalls are fully accessible for disabled people.
* Entrance, toilet facilities, café and bars with disabled access.
* Induction loop system fitted in the stalls.
* Full dressing room facilities.
* Theatre Bar and café.
* Pay and Display car parking on adjacent drive and car park.
The Theatre can be accessed via the slip Road/car Park adjacent to the Captain Cook Statue and Whalebone Arch, or via the steps down from the car park opposite Crescent Gardens. The Booking Office is situated on the Cliff top opposite The Sandbeck Hotel.
