About the Community Association
The Memorial Hall was built in 1925 as a fitting Memorial to the men of West Auckland who died in the 1914 - 1918 War.
Until 1981, Bingo was the sole source of income & this kept the premises open until it was handed over to a Steering Committee in the same year. The old stagers, all in their 70's who handed over a successful concern to us youngsters, were Walter Richardson, Jack Shaw & Robbie Atkinson. Since that time we have built on the original venue and now have a good selection to offer the residents of West Auckland, St Helen's Auckland and the neighbouring villages.
Our Honorary Solicitor some years ago, dealt with the Coal Board, and the land on which the Hall stands, is now an integral part of the property. We also became a Registered Charity (Registered Charity No. 700076) several years ago, and four local Trustees are maintained to keep an overview on the running of the Hall.
