Barmston Village Under Eighteen Youth Football Club originally set up by Nigel Playle with the support of his father Peter began life 1994 in the Russell Foster Tyne & Wear Youth Football League. By the end of the 95/96 season most of the players were too old to register for further seasons in junior football, indeed many were now regular patrons of the pubs in and around Washington Village, in particular the Washington Arms. The landlord of the Arms, Steve Forster, showed an interest in having a football team run from the pub and during the summer of 1996 Peter Playle set about organising the club. A management committee was formed, the club was duly registered with the Durham Football Association and its application to join the Stanley & District Sunday Football for the 1996/97 season was accepted. |
STANLEY & DISTRICT SUNDAY FOOTBALL LEAGUE 1996-98
The first two seasons are spent in the second division of the Stanley & District Sunday League, the clubs very first competitive game is against Stanley Peacock Inn on September 1st 1996, it ends a creditable 0-0 draw. We have a reasonable first season finishing in a comfortable mid table position and are runners up in the leagues Moody Shield final. For most of the second season we are battling for a promotion spot, but we miss out after a last game defeat against local rivals Washington Oasis, we finish third in the league.
At the end of the 1997-98 season the clubs management committee decides to move over to the more prestigious and competitive Durham & District Sunday Football League.

DURHAM & DISTRICT SUNDAY FOOTBALL LEAGUE 1998-2001
The Durham & District Sunday Football League is the largest in the area comprising, when we joined, of a premier and six divisions made up from teams from all parts of County Durham and Tyne & Wear. The clubs first game is a division six fixture against Littletown Ramblers Rest on the 8th August 1998 that ends a 2-2 draw. However Littletown fold during the season and their results are void, officially the first game is now the 4-0 away win over Newbottle Queens Head. We finish the season second to Houghton Glendale Social and are promoted to the fifth division for the 1999-2000 season. Another successful league campaign ends with promotion and we start the new millennium competing in the fourth division, promotion immediately follows again, this time to the third division.

UP & DOWN SEASONS 2001-2003
The 2001-2002 season in division three is quite dramatic. The club is in a period of change, with the new team coach and players struggling to settle in until late in the season we have a run of poor results that puts us in the relegation zone. However an unexpected last game of the season 5-1 win over champions Chilton Wmc ensures we are not to be relegated. Furthermore as a result of restructuring of the league, due to a number of clubs disbanding, we are elevated into division two for the 2002-2003 campaign. The unexpected promotion leads to a difficult season, without quality and strength in depth the whole season is a desperate struggle and we immediately sink back into division three.

REBORN 2003 – 2004
After the disastrous efforts of the previous season the management committee agree the time is right to rebuild the whole team. Former player and team captain Andy Charlton is appointed team manager and player/coach Neil Sybenga his assistant. A new squad of players is pulled together which after a slow start begins to make a big impression. A magnificent run of twelve straight wins propels us to top spot and the divisional championship – the first major honour for the club.
