CUP FINAL DAY RESULTS
12/05/08 CUP FINAL DAY RESULTS
We were blessed with a hot day on Sunday. We were also blessed with George and Brian's permission to use the facilities for which they put a lot of work into maintaining and keep in such fine condition; the efforts of Gary Acton and Mike Russell with their marking of the pitches, goals and roping off to give it a 'special day' feel; and not least willing cheerful, help of so many volunteers for sorting out the refreshments on the day.
The Cup Finals day featured 4 Cup Finals and the first one kicked off with the show piece match from the under 10's match.
Under 10's Cup Final
Catterick Garrison 3 (Josh Cotton,og & Dominic)
Spennithorne 1 (Scott Partridge)
Catterick arrived here high on the shock semi-final result of knocking out leahgue Champions Bellerby and were the more confident, livelier of the two sides in the opening minutes and raced into a 2 goal lead. Spennithorne recovered well and regrouped taking the game to Catterick. Their reward for their show of character came late in the first half when Spennithorne's striker struck a tremendous, powerful, free kick from just outside the penalty area right into the top corner to bring the game back within their reach. But The Garrison gave the perfect answer in another goal to take the wind out of a young Spenni side and to finally lift the Cup for Steve Lomas' side.
Under 16's Cup Final
Catterick Village 2 (Sam Clark & Matty Coe)
Middleham 3 (Ryan Gaze & J. Wilkinson 2)
Arguably this looked like the the game of the day as Catterick had grabbed a championship win form under the noses of a Middleham side that looked like they were heading for a title having won 7 out of 7 games with 5 left. It says much for the character CV that they kept plugging away and slowly but surely hauled their way back; crowning their season with a decisive 4.1 win over Middleham.
CV went into Sunday looking like favourites and started well in the first 10 minutes bombarding Middleham's goal with ackward to handle crosses. But, against the run of play, Middleham scored - much to their and everyone else's surprise!
Catterick equalised and pressed. Middleham scored again and were now looking the part now the suprise came when Catterick equalised.
The game was a scrappy one with both sides not showing their usual excellent quick passing and it seemed that we were heading for the deadlock of extra time and possibly pens when, with seconds on the clock, Middleham grabbed a dramatic late winner to lift the Cup for Dave Beale's purple warriors.
CV's coach keith Donaldson has contributed 10 years at the helm of coaching football to a very good standard and will now take a well earned break but we hope for his return soon.
Andy Fincham was the referee for the first 2 finals and a great job he did too. We then welcomed Kelly Peart for the next two who went on to do an equally impressive job.
There was a frisson of excitement as it became known that a scout from Leeds United was at the Finals, running the rule over the youngsters.
Under 12's Cup Final
Catterick Village Allstars 3 (George Battersby, Jake Amery & Reese Martin)
Spennithorne 1 (Jack Crook)
12:00 and it getting hot out there. Allstars have lived up to their name this season having won 14 out of 14 and wrapped up the Championship with two games left. They were playing second placed Spennithorne who were no slouches themselves winning 11 of their 15 games so far and, in another season against less excellent opposition, could have lifted the title themselves.
Allstars showed why they have come so far with a solid defence and some good passing and movement and it was football good enough to take them into a 2-0 lead. All credit to Spennithorne who didn't give up and put the pressure back on CVA with a strike to pull the deficit back to one goal. Spennithorne pressed but this postive football allowed Allstars that little bit of space to open them up and deliver the blow of a third goal that sealed the game and deliver the double to Steve Prendergast's side.
International Sports Journalist Ron Griffith was there to right an article for the event in his well subscribed blog. We'll keep you posted when he publishes.
Under 14's Cup Final
Spennithorne 1 (scorer?)
Hawes 0
3rd Time lucky for Spenni as their side picked up a Cup from their 3 teams' Finals on the day.
It was a failry balanced game but the higher average age of the Spenni side gave them just that bit more strength and stamina against young Hawes side that had done the League and Cup double last season in the U12's category so watch them go next season.
Barring an avalanche of goals for Hawes in their last match against Barton, Spennithorne will lift the Championship as well for a Double celebration for Lynette's young guns!
Thanks once again to everyone for making it a typically pleasant, fun, event.

30/03/08 CATTERICK VILLAGE U16'S CROWNED CHAMPIONS
At one stage Middleham led the table with 7 wins out of 7 and looked to be heading for the Championship. Queue The Village's resurgent run in; beating Middleham 1.0 and then gaining two emphatic 7.0 wins to close the gap on David Beales' side.
Catterick sealed the title with a 4.1 win last weekend over Middleham that, by all accounts, did not reflect the closeness of the game.
We can look forward to another close encounter between these two sides when they clash in the U16's Cup Final at Spennithorne on May 11th.
28/04/08 2DALES' GIRLS TOURNAMENT RESULTS
Torrents of rain in Bedale, Thirk and Richmond made for a number of nervous coaches and parents checking to see if the weather was being kind to Reeth - it was and the Tournament was declared on! The rain held off for the day to give the U14 teams the chance to win the tournament in it's 3rd year while the U12 sides played for the new U12's Trophy.
Brompton Girls A & B sides stormed to the final of the U14's with the A overcoming Thrisk Falcons 3-0 but, arguably, the game of the Tournament was the semi between Brompton B and Richmond Town A with Richmond succumbing only on penalties.
Brompton B gained bragging rights for the weeks to come with a 2-1 win. well done to Brompton for lighting up the event with their neat football.
The U12's Trophy was lifted by Richmond Town A in a thrilling final 1.0 win against Catterick Garrison Football Centre.
Many thanks to all who contributed to make this the best Tournament so far.
27/04/08 Drama at Gilling West
With games fast running out in what has been an entertaining season for the under 10's, Richmond lined up at Gilling West to face a Hawes side who had won the previous encounter between the two sides. Richmond fired a couple of good shots to signal their intent. However, space in and around the box was at a premium and although there was some good build up play from Richmond, Hawes were making life difficult by having six players behind the ball at all times. After soaking up the pressure, Hawes, aided by their fine striker, broke away and hit two quick goals in succession to stun Richmond Town. 0-2 at the break. Richmond smashed a fine curling shot to reduce the score line. Hawes continued with their game plan and seemed capable of hanging on to do the double over Richmond but Richmond kept calm; passing and searching for an opening. With the clock running down Richmond got the equaliser. Cue a rousing finale! The game opened up with both sides looking for the winner and with only two minutes to go, Richmond's keeper launched a long clearance down the field, with one bounce the Hawes keeper advanced to collect the ball. On the second bounce his outstretched arms could only get a fingertip to the ball that nestled gently in the corner of the Hawes goal. A dramatic finale indeed.
21/04/08 CATTERICK VILLAGE ALLSTARS CLINCH U12'S TITLE
Catterick Village Allstars clinched the title with an impressive 7-0 local derby win over Catterick Village. This 13th win out of 13 games means that they can not be caught. Congratulations To Steve Prendergast and his side and all at Catterick Village that suported such a fine season.

16/04/08 CATTERICK VILLAGE LAUNCH SATURDAY MORNING SOCCER CLUB
The Northern Echo ran a story about their new SMSC last Friday.
Catterick Village Junior Football Club is launching a new Saturday Morning Soccer Club For boys and girls aged 8 or under.
The club has been the home of local junior football for 20 years and this new initiative runs alongside the existing under 16, under 12 and under 11 league teams.
The club is proud to have been one of the first 50 clubs in the country to be awarded the coveted F.A. Charter Standard which ensures the highest standards of coaching and child protection are observed.
The Saturday Morning Soccer Club will provide an introduction to football for both boys and girls and concentrate on fun and learning rather than competitive matches. This is in line with current thinking from the English FA and their "Get Into Football" scheme.
The club will be run by two locally based FA qualified volunteer coaches, Steve Adams and Philip Blakemore.
"We are keen to provide access to football for local kids in a safe and fun environment" said Philip Blakemore. "Sometimes there can be too much importance placed on winning and pressure from parents that stops the children enjoying sport".
Steve Adams added "I moved to Catterick Village 5 years ago and got involved with the local football club having coached previously in London. I think its important that we make sure children have access to healthy activities in their local area".
As part of the launch the coaches will be running some after school sessions at local primary schools and would be keen to hear from headteachers with an interest in linking up with the club.
The Saturday Morning Soccer Club launches on Saturday 12th April (10:30-11:30) and more details are available on the website: catterickvillagejfc.intheteam.com.

CATTERICK GARRISON FC GIRLS UNDER 12'S CHAMPIONS
The Autumn season Championship went right down to the last game with both teams going into this game with a chance of finishing Champions. It was a relief that this game went ahead as it had been postponed on numerous occasions.
Goals from Jamie Reynolds & Megan Howard secured a narrow win to clinch their first Trophy and give coach Cindy Halliday a well earned reward for her work in improving her team's performance over this season.
The new (Spring) season will kick off next week and their defence of their title will begin - yes you guessed it - away at Richmond Town!

21/01/08 WEATHER BITES INTO THE PROGRAMME
Catterick Village Allstars (Under 12s) and Bellerby (U10's) took advantage of the disruption to the programme to increase their leads in their respective division. Catterick Village applied pressure to the leaders with a good win away at 2Dales.
We wait with baited breath for the outcome of the Girls' under 12's Championship decider between Catterick Garrison FC and Richmond Town but the weather won't let us play it out! There are some medales and a trophy to find a home for.

07/09/07 Dales United Under 13's 5 Bedale under 13's 1
This was the curtain raiser to a new season for the Wensleydale Junior Football League. A selection of players were invited to join the squad for a 11-a-side match against Bedale at Harmby.
The opening exchanges were end to end with Bedale taking the game strongly to the home side.
But it was Charlie Harrison that got in at the far post to head in, Jordan Ivesen scored the first of his 2 ending a powerful run of his with a great shot. His second was a tremendous lob into the top left hand corner that would have beaten most goalkeepers. Brandon Acton gave Bedale a life line picking up on some scrappy defending to make it 3.1 on half time.
It was a first run out for both teams but Dales' fitness was slightly better and they converted this advantage into 2 extra goals in the late stages of the game. It was an entertaining game in warm conditions.

21/05/07 BELLERBY UNDER 15'S SECURE DOUBLE
Bellerby 0 Catterick Village 0
Bellerby started the day leading the table by 2 points with Catterick Village, ever present like a shadow on a bright day, in second place. The last game of the season, of course, featured these two sides and Spennithorne played host with the pitch shining with a healthy lustre in the May evening sun. All Bellerby had to do was draw and the Championship was their's. There was some, high tempo, tight passing, football on display and much committed tackling. Both sides struggled for supremacy as they counceled each other out with both playing with good approach but the defences well on top. Half time came with few chances on goal.
The second half started with the yellow and black stripes of Bellerby taking the game more powerfully and directly to Keith Donaldson's Catterick with Catterick's keeper required to make some sound stops - some cars, up on the hill behind the goal, finished with dents they didn't have before kick off.
As the game progressed into it's latter stages the green hoops of Catterick dug out something extra and went hunting for the goal that could bring the League Championship home. Bellerby's keeper came to his side's rescue with a couple of heart stopping saves in the dying minutes to deprive Catterick but see Bellerby home to their second piece of Silverware in the WGSJFL to complete a memorable double.
Bellerby's coach Paul Price is hanging up his coaching manual for a while as he commits him self full time to a career in teaching.
Paul has worked with some of these lads since they were 7 and has instilled some excellent habits, techniques and skills in his charges and leaves behind a great legacy. I wish to thank Pual for all his enthiusiastic and generous support and wish him well - the Teaching profession's gain is our loss. Good luck Paul.
14/05/07 BELLERBY UNDER 15'S LIFT JACK CHARLTON CUP
Bellerby 6 Middleham 0
Reeth hosted the Cup Final for the Under 16's this season in what was fairly damp conditions. This did not stop 2 teams from playing a high tempo game of attacking, end to end, football.
Possession of the football was fairly even in the first 10 minutes with both sides creating chances. It looked like we were in for a repeat of the close game that these two shared a few weeks' ago when Middleham pulled off a shock 1.0 win - but Bellerby were in no mood to let that happen again. The first goal was deserved and signaled a deluge as Bellerby hit another 2 in as many minutes. 3.0 half time. Middleham looked shell shocked but recovered well to make a fight of it in the second half.
It was Bellerby's technically better passing and movement that undid Middleham and created 3 more goals for a scoreline that was a little harsh on the team in light blue.
Moment of the match was a stunning drive from a Bellerby that the keeper did amazingly well to keep out.
Bellerby lift the Cup and credit must go to Paul Price for fashioning a clearly well drilled side.
Can Bellerby they do the 'Double'? Catterick Village need to beat them to take the title at Spennithorne on monday night - it should be a cracker.
The WGSJFL would like to thank David Beales (Middleham coach) for managing to get World Cup Winning Jack Charlton to sign a football. This will be raffled soon tpo rais emoney for the League. Many thanks David.
12/05/07 CUP FINAL RESULTS
Under 10's Cup
Barton 2 Bellerby 2 a.e.t. Barton win 4:2 on penalties.
Bellerby were, naturally, favourites to complete a double this season - particularly as they had gone a season without conceding a goal. It came as a shock when Barton went into an early lead. Bellerby came back strongly and looked like they had gone into a match winning lead, in the middle of the second half, only for Barton to reply swiftly from a corner to make it 2.2.
It was late into the second half of extra time when the bellerby goalkeeper made, arguably, the save of the season reacting to push a strike from close range onto the angle of the goal and see it bounce out to safety.
A large crowd was set to endure the unenviable task of watching these youngsters take penalties and Barton kept their nerve to secure a victory in a fantastically entertaining game. well done to all who took part and congratulations to Barton for their Cup win.
Under 12's Cup
Hawes 3 Catterick Village 2
Once again we had the Champions looking favourites to lift the Cup and once again we had a shock; After 8 seconds the Catterick Village mid fielder speculatively pumped the ball up front from just inside his half only to see the ball drop just under the Hawes cross bar - 1.0. Catterick Village got their reward for harrassing the Hawes defence by forcing an error that led to a second goal on 5 minutes - 2.0.
A shell shocked Hawes had not experienced being behind for a while and it had clearly unsettled them. But they are not Champions for nothing and managed to get a reply to go in 1.2 down at half time.
The opening phase of the second half was all Hawes as they stormed forward looking for a quick equaliser playing their classic wing play style. Catterick Village looked rattled but they held firm. The tackles started to get a little harder and more free kicks being awarded. From once of these free kicks, just outside the area, Hawes made it 2.2. Catterick Village were fighting for their lives and had their chances but Hawes had their break through.
Their late winner was a disputed one resulting from a goal mouth scramble that some thought had been kicked from the goalkeeper's hands. The ref held firm and Hawes went on to lift the Cup and complete their double.
It was another tremendous show piece final for the Wensleydale Gilsan Sports Junior Football League and Congratulations to Hawes for their hard Double success this season.
The Under 15's will contest their Final tonight at Reeth k.o. 18:30.
05/05/05 HAWES ARE UNDER 12'S WGSJFL CHAMPIONS 2006/07
Hawes delivered a Champion's performance against an under strength 2Dales side to seal the Championship last night. They have led the table from way back in September 06 and have stayed there. Gary Richardson's side have also provided the core of the Representative Team in 2 games against development opposition and have shown their ability and commitment. We look forward to more good performances from this side in next season's newly formed WGSJFL Under 14's league. Congratulations! The Legaue Medals and Trophy be awarded after the Cup Final next weekend.
01/05/07 MIDDLEHAM WIN TIGHTENS RACE FOR THE U15 TITLE
Middleham visited Bellerby last night and came away with a convincing 1.0 win. This will give them a confidence boost before these sides meet again in the Cup Final in just under 2 weeks' time. Because of this result Catterick Village and Bellerby have the same points at the top of the league - but Catterick have better goal difference. Both sides have 2 games left and one of those is a clash between them.
29/04/07 BELLERBY CROWNED U10's CHAMPIONS
Friday evening, at Reeth, was a special occasion as John Burnes' side managed to steer 2 goals past 2Dales to get the win to confirm Bellerby as WGSJFL U10's Champions for the 2006/07 season.
They have played some sparkling football, this season, often playing the ball up from the back, shaping triangles in midfield and attacking with some flair down the wings. All credit to John for teh obvious good habits he is instilling in these players. It is a great prospect to look forward to seeing this team develop to the next level next season. I am sure that you will join me in congratulating the deserving winners.

22/04/07 CUP SEMI-FINALS ACTION
It was a tremendous day of action in the Cup Semi-Finals. In the Jack Charlton Under 15's Cup Bellerby continue to steer a path towards the double with a narrow 1.0 win over Barton. While the claret of Middleham will provide worthy opposition to Bellerby after a tight encounter against a much improved Bishopdale. J. Wilkinson grabbing the 2 goals in a 2.0 win.
Possibly the most tense and exciting action of the day came at Reeth as 2Dales entertained Catterick Village in the Under 12's semi-final.
2Dales held a 1.0 lead, thanks to Jack Wrathmall's opportunism. With 2 minutes left on the clock 2Dales had absorbed a barrage of attacks. Finally 2Dales cracked with the impressive Aiden Gracie striking home a shot into the bottom right hand corner. Extra time passed with near misses at both ends and then the tension of penalties. The players, I am sure, will have a bit more sympathy for the pros when they line up to take a kick when the pressure is on. One kick found it's target after 6 penalties and that was a Catterick Village one. 2Dales levelled and Catterick Village then put their 5th home - 2Dales had to score the fifth to stay in (no pressure) it hit the bar and Catterick Village made the final. They face Hawes who won 4.0 against Barton with Ryan Richardson hitting 2 and Brett Calvert and
Jordan Iveson scoring 1 a piece.
The Under 10's Cup Final will feature Barton after they survived a torrid second half to win 3.0 and they will meet Bellerby who overcome Catterick Village in a 1.0 win in a game that could have graced the final itself.
Congratulations to all on reaching the Finals. Final details to follow.

25/03/07 UNDER 12'S BEAT HARTLEPOOL UNITED 3-2
Spennithorne kindly hosted the visit of Hartlepool united to play our select side from the Under 12's league. In a one hour match it was Dales that took the initiative with Ryan Richardson beating the Hartlepool offside trap to slot the ball under the advancing keeper. Dales' joy was short lived as Pools hit a glorious strike from some distance to give Oliver Slade no chance. The North-East seasiders showed some great touches and exhibited flashes of real skill but it was the team work and spirit of a very United Dales' team, and particularly the defence, that kept Pools out. Brett Calvert (Hawes), Jack Clayford (Spennithorne), Steven Moffat (Askrigg) and, later in the game, Dean Leathley all played very well with captain Scott Guy (Hawes) deservedly picked as player-of-the-match. Scott also hit a tremendous shot to give the lead back to Dales. Pools hit back, exploiting the centre of midfield, to come close on many occasions but when the defence was beaten it was Oliver Slade and substitute goalkeeper Aiden Gracie that came up with numerous brave stops to keep them out.
With the game drawing to it's close Dales continued to take the game to Pools with fitness not a problem in a rare outing on a full size pitch. But to score a third, from Brandon Acton, was the cherry on the cake as he swept in a fine shot after a move down the right wing. Pools scored again with another decent shot high into the top corner to create a nail biting climax. Pools hit the bar and post in the dying minutes but Dales United hung on for a deserved win. 03/12/06 MATCHES HIT BY WEATHER AND BUGS
It had to happen. The elements finally caught up with us and scuppered today's fixtures - an awful lot of water fell this week and left us with very boggy pitches; playing on them could be quite slippery but pitches that are cut up at this point of the season almost rarely recover. At least one match did survive at Middleham. Where they had to hang onto the goals to stop them disappearing, with the wind and rain, over the wall. Illness has been going around and cost us at least 2 games this weekend. Hopefully everyone is getting better. Fingers-crossed for next weekend.
27/11/06 Girls' matches required. 5,6,7-a-side matches needed. Please contact Bob Fairbrother on 01748 884323 & r.fairbrother@elsevier.com
21/11/06 Dales United 5 Boro Development F.C. 5.
Saturday 18/11/06 was a landmark day for the Wensleydale Gilsan Sports Junior League Under 12s Representative side. They took on a Middlesborough FC development side and what a game it was! Boro brought the same team that had, just a couple of week's ago, humbled Richmond town Under 12s 13.4 so a great deal of pressure was expected from the team in all red. The first 20 minutes didn't quite work out that way with Dales United taking the game to Boro and with Jonny Lord notching a fine goal after 3 minutes, Ryan Richardson and then Jordan Iveson following with good strikes. Dales were well worth a 3.0 lead at the first break.
2Dales brought 20+ of the best players from the Dales into this match and the first batch of changes was made. It took a little while for the new line up to gel and this gave Boro the chance to rally well managing to keep their shape and disrupting ours and whittling down our lead to make it 3.3 all.
Into the 3rd and final 20 minute session and a regrouped and determined Dales side contributed to a balanced and exciting end to end finale. Dales took the lead scoring twice through Damen Wreeks only to see the fighting qualities of the Boro side shine through to claw the game back to 5.5 all in the last minutes. A fair result reflecting a good even contest played in a great spirit and some good football through out. There were some good performances from so many of the Dales players but it was Brett Calvert that got the vote for Man-of-the-Match for his fine display of positioning, passing and some excellent 'last man' tackles.
Our thanks go to all for your support and enthusiasm to make this very enjoyable event possible.
It is intended to keep the momentum going by arranging some more coaching sessions and more competitive matches - watch this space.
