Best Kept Village Competition

The results of the 2003 Best Kept Village competition within Richmondshire have now been published and again this year Whashton only came second in the category for villages with under 200 inhabitants. However we were only runners-up by a small margin, so it was still a very creditable result. We had some useful comments from the judges so we know what improvements we need to make for next year.

Barn Dance - 2004

Following the great success of the Barn Dance held to celebrate the Queen's Jubilee in 2002, it has been proposed that we hold a dance again next year. Planning is at an early stage, but the event is likely to be held in the summer as last time.

Once we have agreement for the venue, planning can start in earnest and as last time we will be looking for a team of volunteers to help with the organisation and setting up of the event.

Countryside & Rights of Way Act

A copy of Countryside and Rights of Way Act consulation paper promulgated by the Countryside Agency together with a map showing designated areas of Common Land and Open Country within the Parish of Whashton is held by the Parish Clerk (John Young, Clarence Cottage) should anyone wish to consult it.
