VISITOR ATTRACTIONS IN WEARDALE OR WITHIN 1 HOURS DRIVE

The Weardale countryside is of quite outstanding beauty and visitors will not be surprised to learn that parts of it have been designated as "areas of outstanding natural beauty". However Weardale has more to offer visitors than wonderful scenery and wildlife - it also has all year round quality visitor attractions, some of them kindly left by earlier foreign tourists, the Romans who mined for lead in Weardale.

Killhope Mining Centre, Cowshill

Weardale Open Air Swimming Pool (May - Sept)
25m outdoor swimming pool.

Stanhope Station (under renovation)

Binchester Roman Fort

Hadrians Wall

Beamish open air museum with working trams, trains and reconstructed town, station and farm

Washington - Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust- hundreds of foreign ducks and geese.
