Scailing Dam

One 29th June 2002, we were invited to join a Sailing session at Scaling Dam near Whitby. Everybody was looking forward to it. Me, Rob, Peter, Marc, Natasha, Claire, Mel, Jamie, Stephanie among others were the children who attended. We were all looking forward to it a lot, and finally the day came. We got the the lake and were all amazed at how big it was. It was HUGE! Everybody was eager to get a turn, especially Claire who was very impatient indeed.
We had all been warned to expect to get a bit wet, but for two members of the youth club, that was an understatement. Marc and Peter were one of the first pairs to go out. They were itching to get in the boat. They got all kitted up and were ready to sail. They got in the boat and set sail, but by not a whisker longer than 20 seconds, the boat had capsized, and they both found themselves trapped under a sail. Peter managed to get himself free first, and shortly after Marc made an appearance. Marc later claimed that Peter tried to kill him by maliciously trying to drown him. Unfortunately Peter's plan didn't go according to plan, and Marc is still alive and kicking living a fine life. Peter found the whole experience exhilarating and was eager to get back on the water. However Marc, being a big fairy who wears marigolds, got his kit off and ran and sat on the bus all day like a big poof! Peter went on to ride the sailling boats many times, but to his dismay didn't manage to capsize again, which astonished me, seeing as he managed to tip over a quad bike a couple of weeks before at about 5mph on a flat surface.
Everybody went on to enjoy the rest of the day and were all very gratful for being given the opportunity to sail in sailing boats, except for Jamie who only enjoyed it "moderately". Everybody went home happy, and lived happily ever after.

Peter's Story

At Portland Lodge there has always been this tradition of tying people up to this big tree and then hurling loads of water at them. The second time I went to Portland Lodge for some weird reason Stephanie actually wanted it to happen to her (weird girl). Then Robert B got caught and tied, but instead of throwing my jug of water at him I threw it at Keith instead! Then Keith wanted to get Marc, coz he's a big fairy who wears marigolds and dresses up in girls clothes. Marc had disappeared though. Keith started to get really worried, thinking he had run away. EVERYONE in the whole lodge started searching for him but they couldn't find him. I could though, but didn't tell anyone! Keith really wanted to get me now, so he started to hatch a plan......

Later on, just after tea, Keith said there was something under a rock for me outside the front door. I was really cautious, because I knew he was up to something.... As I went to turn the rock over all I heard was "Peter! Watch out!" It was Emma shouting from the girl's bedroom window, warning me that Keith was sneaking up behind me with a HUGE pan of water! I quickly ran away, and Keith fell over and spilt the water all over himself! Emma regretted warning me as well, because later on she was pushed into the showers with her clothes on and got soaked!

Everyone was called into the dining room to be told the rules of a new game we were going to play. There were people sitting on our table at the back, so we had to sit right at the front instead. Keith said he needed a volunteer to come and sit at on a chair at the front to demonstrate to everyone else. He chose me, and no sooner had I sat down that two big tow ropes were tied around me so I was stuck to the chair! Then the chair was carried outside, and EVERYONE came out with pans and cups and jugs full of water to throw at me! I got absolutely drenched, and it took days for my clothes to dry! I don't think I will ever get smart with Keith again....."

Steph's Story

"On Sunday the 6th July Keith and John took some of us to Roseberry Topping to do a group sponsored walk! When we got there we were all ready with our bottles of water, raring to go (especially Marc and Peter, who started running up the steps straight away!). So off we went, me, Marc, Peter, Rob B, James, Sam, Claire, Natasha and Bob (and Keith, Peter C and John of course!). Once we made it up the first climb we started doing the conga to celebrate - Little did we know that there was still agesleft to go! But on we went, for what seemed like hours! Finally we all reached the top, and what a view! You could see for miles around -Middlesbrough, Guisborough, Stockton - It was fantastic! The cliff at the edge was also a very long drop! Some of the braver ones dangled there feet over the edge, while others stood as far back as possible! But after a good well-deserved rest we started to make our way back down (which was almost as tiring as gettin up there in the first place!). Nature happenned to call at an inconvenient time for one member of the group though - Luckily for Marc there was plenty of trees about!!! And at last, after miles of hiking we arrived back where we had started - We had completed our sponsored walk! Marc, Peter and Bob were raring to do it again, but the more sensible ones had decided that was enough walking for one day, and we made our way back home.

Thanks to everyone who sponsered us! We managed to raise over £460!"
