Young Guns WANTED
|The Youth Pool Series is run exclusively for the future generation of pool players most of whom will have been playing pool for less than 2 years.|
Although there are a lot of young people interested in pool they lack the facilities to practice. Most venues won’t let youngsters play until they’re at least 14, whereby their interest may have waned. The aim of the series is to tap into that hidden talent and to allow them to improve their game, hopefully at the same time, making new friends and friendly rivalries, all with the added spice of honest competition.
The Series consists of 5 Individual Events, with one event held in May, June, September, October and November of each year. The date of each event will be posted on this site and will appear on posters in pubs/clubs in the Oxfordshire area from March.
Entry Fee for the Series is £10 (= £2 per event) and is open to all players, male and female, who were 17 or under on 1st March. (All players must pay the Entry Fee of £5 before playing in any event, regardless of how many events they attend. Additionally, all players under 12 must be accompanied by an adult or responsible family member.)
Tables at the venue will be on “Free Play” and all monies raised go towards trophies awarded at each event.
The Series will consist of 5 individual “double elimination” knockout events with ranking points gained by all players depending on how well they do at each event (similar to Formula One motor racing). The more events you attend the more points will be gained. (A double-elimination tournament is a competition in which a participant ceases to be eligible to win the tournament's championship upon having lost two games or matches. It stands in contrast to a single-elimination tournament, in which only one defeat results in elimination).
No prior notification is required – just turn up on the day and play.
Following the 5th and final event the player with the most ranking points will be declared the Series Winner (a play-off will be played in the event of 2 or more players being tied).
Trophies will be awarded to the Winner and Runner-up at each event as well as to the overall Series Winner
Additionally, the Series Winner will be invited to represent the Oxfordshire County Youth Team in the EPCF County Championships the following season. i.e. the 2007 winner will qualify for the 2008 team (*players must be 17 or under on 1st March of the relevant year to be eligible to play in the Youth Team in the County Championships).
All events will be held at Colours Pool Club, 28-31 St Ebbes Street, Oxford (side street by the Westgate Shopping Centre).
They will take place on a Sunday, registration for each event will be at 11.30am with play commencing at 12 noon and should finish around 5pm.
All players entering the series will qualify for free club membership (players should contact the club manager, Jimmy Millar, to take advantage of this offer).
