ADCC Programme for 2007

The Club has continued in 2007 with a sequence of fornightly meetings and has put together a programme which includes more coaching on digital imaging which was requested by a majority of the membership.
The first meeting of 2007 was a Quiz compiled by Peter Phillips who conducted the proceedings with good humour and stoicism when faced with requests to phone a friend and ask the audience! Despite the Quizmaster's desire to test the Club's knowledge of Photography, the assembled Company managed to answer most of the questions posed.
On the 18th January, the Club held its AGM. Peter Phillips has taken the Chairman's job and Lynda Pasquire, after the statutory maximum term of 3 years, has taken the role of Vice Chairman. In recognition of Shelagh Roberts' many years of service to the Club, she was appointed President.
On the 1st February, the Club hosted the Royal Photographic Society Nature Exhibition - the accepted Slides, Prints and, this year, Digital Images. All categories showed some stunning wildlife images which were enjoyed by members and visitors alike.
On 15th February Chris Gibbins gave a practical demonstration of how to get started with Digital Imaging. The sort of programs to use which were available free or for a small cost, right up to the Industry Standard Photoshop CS. Chris had enrapt audience with lots of questions in the break. People are looking forward to the next talk.
On the 1st March we had the first League Competition of the year "On the Move". Changing the arrangements to allow Digital to have a place in the competition meant that we had Slides, Digital Slides, and Prints to look at in one evening. We reduced the number of entries to two in each class. One member hopefully suggested that because he only entered one class, could he not have six entries to compensate! You have to come to the AGM if you want to alter the rules! Sandy Watson judged a very strong entry in all classes. He had his work cut out to chose an outright winner in each class.
On the 15th March Brian Woolnough gave an illustrated talk of his work for the Tearfund Charity. Some thought provoking images taken of people who had very little by way of possessions and who lived to the best of their abilities. Tiny rooms to accommodate huge numbers of their extended family and all spotlessly clean. Brian's work crossed several continents in the slide show, and the images were exceptional.
29th March saw Roger McCallum, from Woodley Photographic Club, give a highly entertaining talk on “Coming Out of the Darkroom”, showing some of his photos and images, starting with traditional film monochrome photos from his early days working for the Mirror newspaper and then for a health authority, progressing to digital imagery in more recent years. It was fascinating to see the progression through the different types of media, especially the early enthusiasms for “photoshopping” digital images to which many of us have succumbed. But in the end, it was Roger's true photographic talents that shone through in his superb pictures and his entertaining commentary.

12th April was a Members Evening and Jon Orme took the floor following his successful trip to Africa. A digital slide show giving a flavour for the places visited and some beautiful images of the wildlife and an amusing commentary (The sign advising no fishing and warning of crocodiles was particularly humorous!) was appreciated by the audience which included some potential new members. New members are always welcome to come and try for free for a couple of occasions.

26th April saw Ron Bell come and judge some fascinating macro/close up images. A comprehensive range of subjects were presented from the members and made the judging difficult as the quality of photography was extremely good.
10th May was an evening to face ones fear of creepy crawlies because the local Pet Shop in Drayton Village, brought along a selection of amazing creatures for the club to photograph including a beautiful tarantula which even the most arden spider-haters could not resist having a sly look at! The iguana behaved himself impeccably, posing on his log as if he was born to it, whilst the spider crabs were intent on making their escape and had to be corralled.
24th May Chris Gibbins gave a follow-on to his earlier talk on getting to understand photoshop which was well received by an attentive audience who were determined to get to grips with this aspect of photography. A highly entertaining and informative evening came all too quickly to an end with the audience fervently requesting a follow on tutorial as soon as possible.
7th June Clive Jones came to stand in for Malcolm Taylor to judge the Competition entries on the theme of "Three". Again a wide variety of entries which made judging hard for Clive who, in the end decided there were several pictures worthy of top marks.
21st June was an opportunity for members to get some fresh air and exercise and wander over Wittenham Clumps.
On the 5th July, there was a return match with Swindon Photographic Club.
The Meeting of the 19th July, showed the results of the pictures taken at Wittenham Clumps.
30th August started the Autumn Season with members bringing along a few of their latest images to show and talk about.
6th September was an outdoor event with members enjoying the late evening sunshine in Oxford in the vicinity of the Castle.
20th September was another opportunity for people wanting to know more about the intricacies of Photoshop to be informed and enlightened as Chris Gibbins gave another interesting tutorial with more of the mysteries of this computer software being laid bare.
4th October was the Three on a Theme Competition, judged by Don Byatt from Oxford Photographic Society.
18th October was a member's evening, with Shelagh Roberts FRPS, demonstrating what makes a good exhibition print.
1st November, Barbara Lyddiatt judged this League Competition - entitled "People".
15th November, was another member's evening. This time Mike Kosnowski gave a showing of his wildlife pictures entitled "Birds I view"
29th November - Image of the Year. Best of the club membership images on trial.
13th December - Social Evening at the Greyhound Restaurant, Besselsleigh.
