A winning weekend for Banbury Tennis Club
This report to go with photograph taken on Saturday 30th June.
Banbury Mens B maintained their 100% record with a well earned 6& half to 2 & half win over Woodstock B. Leading the way was 1st pair Phil Taylor & Steve Thopr undefeated & untroubled. An excellant team performance saw 2nd pair Dave Sutlieff & John Hamer winning twice and third pair Phil Davies with Steve Rogers winning 1 & half. They were unfortunate not to pick up another point when losing in a third set tiebreak against their opposite number. Next match Thame in 2 weeks time.
In the BG Stone Boys U14 league, the long trip to Goring was rewarded with a close fought win by 5 sets to 3. In glorious sunshine 1st pair Darren Simpson & Stuart Sherington won 6-2 6-4. 2nd pair Greg Hawkes with newcomer George Vasey halved their match. First singles went to a deciding tiebreak which Darren Simpson scraped through to win sticking to a 'get to the net first' policy. Second singles again was keenly contested with Stuart coming through 6-4. Third singles saw Greg battling long baseline rallies but unfortunately could not break down his opponent losing 6-3. Fourth singles found newcomer George lacking the experience which will surely come in good time. The result was satisfaction following the previous days defeat at Banbury West End.
