ELVIS LIVES ON IN SYMPHONIC STYLE
Symphonic ElvisMemphis Symphony Orchestra & Ettore StrattaTo commemorate 30 years since the death of the legendary Elvis Presley, Warner Classics and Jazz have released Symphonic Elvis, a collection of Elvis’s greatest hits transformed into 12 orchestral arrangements.
Featuring the Memphis Symphony Orchestra and conducted by Italian Ettore Stratta, Symphonic Elvis boasts guest appearances by Elvis’s former band members including guitarists (and Elvis’s first manager) Scotty Moore and Reggie Young, pianist Bobby Wood, bassist Mike Leech, saxophonist Boots Randolph, and harmonica legend Charlie McCoy.
America’s premier southern orchestra, the Memphis Symphony Orchestra has its own personal link to Elvis. Since 1993 they have marked the singer’s birthday with an Elvis Birthday Concert featuring symphonic arrangements of Elvis tunes. However the making of the album began in many ways in 1968 when Elvis began singing with an orchestra for a TV show he was involved in. The legend fell in love with the results and the seeds of Symphonic Elvis were sown.
Symphonic Elvis includes well-known hits ‘That’s All Right’, ‘Are You Lonesome Tonight’, ‘Love Me Tender’ and ‘Heartbreak Hotel’. The disc is released on Warner Classics & Jazz and is a re-release of the
1996 Teldec Classics original 20th Anniversary release.
